Admission Process -

The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) conducts an admissions process that is very competitive and thorough, aimed at picking applicants who not only have good academic records but also remarkable ability, leadership potential, and a passion for learning. While precise specifics may differ significantly between IIMs, the following overview summarises the overall admission process for the majority of IIMs:

1. CAT (Common Admission Test) Examination: The first step for admission to the IIMs is usually to appear for the CAT exam. CAT is a national-level entrance test conducted annually, measuring candidates' quantitative, verbal, and logical reasoning abilities. It serves as the initial screening process to shortlist candidates for the subsequent rounds of selection.

2. Shortlisting for Written Ability Test and Personal Interview: Each IIM publishes a shortlist of candidates who meet their cutoff requirements based on CAT scores. Shortlisted candidates are subsequently invited to the next step of the selection process, which usually consists of a Written Ability Test and a Personal Interview.

3. Academic Performance, Work Experience, and Diversity: In addition to the CAT score, the selection procedure takes into account the candidate's academic performance, employment experience, diversity (including gender, academic background, and professional experience), and any other noteworthy accomplishments. These factors can play a significant role in determining the final selection.

4. Final Selection: After the WAT and PI rounds, each IIM compiles a final merit list based on various components, including CAT score, WAT score, PI performance, academic performance, work experience, and diversity factors. Candidates who make it to the final merit list receive offers of admission.

5. Waitlist and Offer Acceptance: IIMs often maintain a waitlist of candidates in case some of the initially selected candidates do not accept the offer of admission. As candidates decline offers, candidates from the waitlist are offered admission in the order of their ranking.

It's crucial to keep in mind that the admissions procedure may vary slightly amongst different IIMs and may change annually. Additionally, a few IIMs provide specialized programs with distinct admission requirements. Aspiring applicants should carefully research the admission requirements and procedure of the particular IIMs they are interested in.
