About NID DAT 2024

The National Institute of Design (NID) conducts the NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT), a national entrance test, to admit candidates to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Master of Design (M.Des) programs provided by the member institutes. The candidates are required to appear for the exam (both DAT and Mains) to apply for the undergraduate as well as the postgraduate courses the marks of which determine the candidate’s application status.

Two steps make up the Design Aptitude Test: 

• DAT Prelims - The candidates are required to appear for the Prelims exam initially. 

• DAT Mains - The candidates are chosen for DAT Mains based on their performance in DAT Prelims. 

• It should be noted that taking both the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains is required for admission to the B.Des as well as M.Des courses.

The steps to be followed by the candidates willing to participate in NID DAT are as follows:

Following is a step-by-step guide for candidates to complete the form for NID DAT:

• Registration - When you click the registration link, a registration form will be displayed. Choose your program of study, and then enter information such as your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, and so on. An individual applicant account will be generated following successful registration.

• Log in to fill out the form - You can access your account by entering your email address and date of birth. Fill out the application form completely, including the fields for educational background, contact information, and personal data. You will additionally need to choose an exam venue.

• Upload documents - ​​In the final stage, upload scanned copies of your signature, portrait, and category documents in the format required.

• Pay the application fee - Check that the application is complete in all aspects because after the application cost is paid, the application procedure is complete and the application cannot be edited any further.

NID DAT 2024 Eligibility Criteria

The NID Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT) is conducted to qualify the candidates for admission to B.Des and M.Des programs at NID campuses. Preliminary and Main exams are held as part of the NID DAT. Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD), a UG-level curriculum, are also provided by NID at its campuses in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Assam. The candidates must fulfill the NID DAT eligibility requirements to sit for the entrance examination before applying for the NID DAT.

NID DAT 2024 Syllabus

The National Institute of Design (NID) has not yet published any official syllabus for the NID DAT exam. After reviewing the papers from past years, the crucial subjects for NID DAT 2024 are compiled and available as a tentative syllabus.

The NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT Mains are the first steps of the two-step NID admission test process. Additionally, only those candidates who pass the DAT Prelims will be selected for the DAT Mains. A Studio Test is included in the DAT Mains for the B.Des program and for the M.Des program, immediately after the Studio Test, the candidates will be called for an interview at the same centre.

NID DAT 2024 Examination Pattern

The NID DAT 2024 exam pattern has been made available at admissions.nid.edu by the National Institute of Design (NID). The DAT Prelims test will be administered by the National Institute of Design on 24 December 2024. After the clearance of the DAT Prelims, the shortlisted candidates will be provided with admit cards for the DAT Mains which is the Studio Test based on which they will be granted for applying in the B.Des and M.Des courses. NID DAT Prelims will be held offline and will consist of subjective and objective questions, whereas the NID DAT Mains, a studio test, will comprise several tests such as drawing, sketching, and model making. The candidates applying to M.Des courses will be called immediately after the Studio Test.  

NID DAT 2024 Results

The NID DAT 2024 final results of NID DAT Prelims and Mains were released separately for the B.Des and M.Des programs. Results can be viewed online by clicking the result link and entering the candidate's login details. The complete procedure is outlined below:

NID DAT 2024 Outcomes

The candidates who qualify for the NID DAT Examinations are eligible to apply for B.Des and M.Des programs at participating NIDs across India. The final selection outcomes will be established by admission tests, followed by DAT Mains (Studio Test) after which the chosen candidates will be able to apply for undergraduate design programs whereas the candidates applying for postgraduate design programs will have to clear the interview round after the Studio Test.
