GATE 2024: Application Procedure, Exam Date, Syllabus, Eligibility, Pattern, and Admit Card

About GATE 2024

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). It is organized on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, under the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. GATE serves as a mandatory qualification for admission and financial assistance in Master of Engineering (ME), Masters in Technology (MTech) and direct PhD admissions in various disciplines, both in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture and Arts/Science, at institutions supported by the MoE and other government agencies.

Moreover, the GATE qualification is often required, even in certain colleges and institutions without scholarships, and many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) use GATE scores in their recruitment process. The examination is a Computer Based Test (CBT), reflecting candidates' comprehensive understanding of their chosen subjects. The GATE score remains valid for three years from the result announcement date.

The exam is held in different cities across India and selected cities in neighbouring countries. Each administering institute is responsible for managing a specific zone for the examination's administrative purposes. Several PSUs, such as IOCL, NTPC, and PGCIL, consider GATE scores in their hiring process, highlighting their importance in the job market.

GATE 2024 encompasses 30 subjects, often referred to as "papers," and the examination format is conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT). The papers include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions, with candidates using an on-screen virtual calculator provided for the examination. Candidates can appear in one or up to two papers of the GATE examination, depending on their interests and qualifications. Regardless of appearing in two papers, candidates need to fill out only one application form.

GATE 2024 Outcomes

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is a prestigious examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) located in Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee. The GATE Committee, consisting of representatives from these administering institutes, is responsible for regulating the examination process and declaring the results.

To access their results, qualified candidates can log in to their accounts on the GATE 2024 website, which is The scorecards can be downloaded only by those who have qualified for the GATE 2024 examination. It is essential to keep a softcopy of the scorecard safe for all future purposes since GATE scores are valid for a duration of three years from the date of the result announcement. In case of any disputes or claims related to the GATE 2024 examination or scores, the High Court of Allahabad in Prayagraj has exclusive jurisdiction to entertain and settle such matters.

It is essential to note that there is no provision for issuing hard copies of the GATE scorecard. Therefore, candidates should make sure to save a softcopy of their scorecard for future reference. However, if GATE-qualified candidates need a softcopy of their GATE Scorecard after the specified time, they must be willing to pay the stipulated amount per paper for obtaining it.

In conclusion, GATE is a vital examination that holds immense value for candidates seeking higher education opportunities and career advancements in the fields of Engineering, Technology, Architecture, and Arts and Science. Its robust assessment and recognition by top institutions and PSUs make it a highly respected and sought-after examination in India. The GATE score opens doors to various academic and job opportunities and remains valid for a period of three years, providing candidates with ample scope to explore their potential and aspirations. Aspiring candidates can refer to the official GATE 2024 website for detailed information on the subjects, exam pattern, and application process.
