Visva Bharati University (VBU), Santiniketan is one of the oldest and most prestigious public central universities located in Shantiniketan, West Bengal. VBU Santiniketan was founded in 1951 by Rabindranath Tagore as a place for students from all walks of life to receive higher education. Admission Procedure
Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan conducts an online admission procedure for the students. Students (co-ed) are required to fill up the application form that is available on the official website. Candidates are required to have passed their Higher Secondary Examinations from a recognised board. Except as expressly indicated for specific Bhavana where activity/performance-based exams may be held to finish the merit list, the applicant's Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUET) score will be used to determine the applicant's place on the merit list for admission to various undergraduate courses. Undergraduate degrees provided by VBU Shantiniketan are Bachelor of Arts (B.A), Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Design (B.Des), Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA), Bachelor of Physical Education (B.PEd), Bachelor of Rural Science (BRS), Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Bachelor of Music (B.Mus) with multiple specializations. Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma courses are also provided. The final admission will be based on the merits gained by the applicants.
VBU Shantiniketan also offers postgraduate degrees in Master of Arts (M.A), Master of Science (M.Sc), Master of Performing Arts (MPA), Master of Fine Arts (MFA), Master of Rural Science (MRS), Master of Education (MEd), Master of Social Work (MSW) and Master of Design (M.Des), in various specialisations. Candidates can apply with the required eligibility as per the university's instruction. Admission to some postgraduate courses are carried out on the basis of departmental entrance test conducted by VBU Shantiniketan. Doctorate courses providing Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees are provided in various specializations and areas. Admission to PhD courses are done through University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test (CSIR NET), State Level Eligibility Test (SLET), Indian Council of Agricultural Research National Eligibility Test (ICAR NET), Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and PhD Entrance Test conducted by the university.
