Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai is a public-deemed research institute in Mumbai, Maharashtra. TISS Mumbai is a University Grants Commission (UGC)-approved institution and was founded in 1936. Initially named the “Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work”, the institute was renamed to “Tata Institute of Social Sciences” in 1944 and declared a deemed university in 1964.
TISS Mumbai functions as a higher education institution committed to responding to and alleviating social realities and creating an ecological, sustainable, and equality-based society. Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai offers various kinds of social science courses spread across 19 schools of study. Candidates applying for admission must meet the eligibility criteria of completing their final year eligible degree including all examinations of their Bachelor's or Master's Degree (of a minimum duration of three to four years) from a UGC-recognised institution with internship experiences, if applicable. The final selection process is conducted based on students’ applications, after which they will be shortlisted for personal interviews where they need to produce original certificates and mark sheets for verification.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai also boasts impactful field action activities to give back to society; some of these activities include its psychological helpline “iCall”, a dialogue on criminal justice and rehabilitation “Amulya Balpan”, capacity building of teacher educators on constructive teaching and learning with technology (CTLT), and the 'I ACCESS' Rights Mission- TISS’ unique initiative towards increased inclusion and accessibility for students with disabilities in higher education.

Admission Procedure
Candidates who are sucessfully completing all the requirements of their final year eligible degree including all examinations (Bachelor's or Master's Degree (of minimum of 3 or 4 years duration) from any university recognized by the University Grants Commission of India.) and internships, if applicable, are eligible to apply. Candidates need to submit their degree certificate and final marksheet as an evidence of having successfully meeting the eligibility criteria by the given date. The final selection process is done on the basis of information provided by the candidates in the application. Candidates will be shortlisted for personal interview and they need to provide to produce an original certificate and mark sheet on the date of personal interview, for verifying that the candidate is eligible for admission. Candidates need to go through the Programme Specific Eligibility from the official website in order to get a detailed version of the programmes.
