Surendranath College, Kolkata (SCK) is a government undergraduate women’s college affiliated with the University of Calcutta. SCK is a University Grants Commission (UGC)-approved college situated in Sealdah, Kolkata. SCK was established in 1948 and traces back to the Presidency School which was led by the eminent Indian scholar Sri Sir Surendranath Banerjea, later renamed Ripon College and finally to Surendranath College in honour of the institution’s founder. The college is headed by principal Dr. Purnima Biswas Mookherjee and president Dr. Uday Shankar Hazra.
The Surendranath College, Kolkata campus houses state-of-the-art academic and co-curricular infrastructure, housing ICT-enabled smart classrooms, well-equipped seminar halls, a spacious auditorium, well-equipped modern laboratories with an animal and plant museum, recording studios, a central library, and 15 departmental libraries with a student's reading zone.
SCK offers undergraduate courses which include B.Sc (General) in two specialisations, B.Sc. (Hons) in twelve specialisations, B.A. (General), B.A(Hons) in nine specialisations, B.Com (General), and B.Com. (Hons). Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria of having completed their 10+2 examination in the relevant subjects or stream from a recognized board to be considered for admission into undergraduate programmes. Surendranath College, Kolkata (co-ed college) offers courses in B.Sc(Hons) in twelve specialisations, B.Sc(General) in two specialisations, B.A(Hons) in nine specialisations, B.A(General), B.Com(Hons), and B.Com(General). Candidates must have completed their 10+2 examination in the relevant subjects or stream from a recognized board in order to be considered for undergraduate programmes. SC Kolkata also offers M.sc in Computer Science. All applicants, C.U. and non-C.U., must take the entrance exam administered by the University of Calcutta in order to be admitted into this program and the eligibility requirement is a B.Sc. with honours in computer science or its equivalent from a recognised university with at least 55% of the required marks.
