Silicon Institute of Technology (SIT), Bhubaneswar is a private autonomous engineering institute affiliated with the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Odisha. SIT, Bhubaneswar was the result of an initiative taken on by BITS Pilani graduates Sanjeev Nayak and Laxman Mohanty in 1987. The Silicon School of Information Technology (SSIT) was instituted in n1998 by GBCET to offer MCA degrees to students. With rigorous efforts in the next three years, the Silicon Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar was formally established in 2001 with four AICTE-approved B.Tech. courses being offered to candidates.

The SIT Bhubaneswar campus is situated on an expansive 18.5-acre campus in Infocity. SIT Bhubaneswar is a residential campus with hostel facilities and houses spacious and well-equipped classrooms, a 400-seater auditorium, separate laboratories for different subjects, a state-of-the-art sports complex, and a well-stocked library with discussion rooms, reading cubicles, and book bank facilities.

Silicon Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar offers B.Tech. degrees across six specializations, M.Tech. degrees across five specialisations, and doctoral and research programmes. Candidates seeking admission into SIT Bhubaneswar must meet the eligibility requirements and appear for the JEE Main examinations and secure the required cut-off scores. Final selections are based on the candidate’s JEE Main scores/ranks, followed by the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) e-counselling process.

SIT Bhubaneswar boasts an eminent teaching faculty holding prestigious degrees from universities in India and abroad; a sizeable number of faculty members have doctoral degrees from reputed institutions and acquired work experience in both industry and academia. The professors take pride in offering a holistic educational experience and educating students to develop their personality, technical skills, human values, and social behaviour.

Scholarship opportunities are provided by SIT Bhubaneswar via 14 distinct state-specific and all-state scholarship schemes. The top six students from the Silicon Scholars Club are awarded an INR 12,000 scholarship annually, while other contributions are made by the college administration and faculty to award scholarships to meritorious and deserving candidates. Students have to submit the required supporting documents to avail of the scholarships per the rules and regulations of the schemes, after which the nodal officer processes and finalises their scholarship application.

The Silicon Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar has an industry interface cell which organises placement camps and invites potential recruiters on campus. SIT Bhubaneswar boasts a long history of corporate acceptability and placements and records more than 75% successful placements every year. Students are offered internships, final placements, as well as intern-to-job offers for final-year students completing their internships. The institute’s students are recruited by reputed organisations in product development, startups, and IT services from a wide variety of industries. Some of the leading recruiters from attending SIT Bhubaneswar’s campus placements include Amazon, Infosys, TCS, IBM, SAP Labs, Wipro, Accenture, Cognizant, Synopsys, Micron Technology Inc, Mindtree, and Mindfire Solutions. SIT Bhubaneswar also hosts, organises, and participates in a variety of cultural, co-curricular, and sports competitions and festivals annually. The college organises two popular annual intercollege events- the technical fest “Techstacy” and the cultural fest “Zreyas” attended by students hailing from colleges across the state. Other campus events include blood donation drives, the “Obscura” festival on the occasion of world photography day, model united nations, Silicon Quizfest “QUIZIENT”, and “Sangam”- a cultural unity celebration.

Admission Procedure

Silicon Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar offers B.Tech degrees in six specializations. Admissions are open to all students (co-ed) who have completed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics as mandatory subjects and Computer Science/ IT/ Chemistry/ Biochemistry/ Biology as one of the optional subjects from a recognised Indian Board. The final selection would be based on the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main scores, followed by the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) e-counselling process. Students interested in enrolling in various programmes provided by SIT, Bhubaneswar (SiliconTech) can apply online. 

SIT Bhubaneswar also offer postgraduate programs such as M.Tech, MCA, M.sc and a PhD course with various specialisation. Candidates must pass the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) -conducted PGAT entrance test or have a valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in order to be admitted to an M.Tech programme. Those who are interested in admission to the MCA programme must have received a passing score on the OJEE entrance exam. A master's degree with a relevant score is required to be eligible for the PhD program.

Scholarships

There are at least 14 distinct schemes (state-specific or all-state) through which a student might receive a scholarship. The Silicon Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar provides a scholarship of INR 12,000 every year to the top six students in the Silicon Scholars Club. Furthermore, Silicon employees make annual contributions to award scholarships to deserving students. Students must submit supporting documentation in accordance with the rules of the various schemes. The scholarship application is then immediately processed by Silicon's Nodal Officer.
