On July 7, 2008, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), now the Ministry of Education, of the Government of India, founded the School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada (SPA Vijayawada) as an autonomous school. For excellence in the domains of planning and architecture, SPA Vijayawada is a leading Centrally Funded Technical Institution (CFTI) directly under the MHRD. It was designated as an "Institution of National Importance" in 2014 by a parliamentary act (Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India). The academic method and focus of SPA Vijayawada are a special fusion of design, creativity, and objectivity with a social purpose. Students gain the necessary skills as well as exposure to thought-provoking and intellectually stimulating sessions through workshops, field trips, and research projects during their studies, which brings out their best creative selves.

Admission Procedure
School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada offers B.Arch, B.Plan, M.Arch, MBEM, M.U.D, M.Plan, and Ph.D degrees. Admission to the Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Planning programmes is based on the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA 2022). The students must meet the minimum criteria set forth by the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB). Admission to the PG programme will be made through a written test followed by an interview. A written examination will determine admission to the Ph.D. programme. The applicants who pass the written exam must show up for a viva-voce with a brief Power Point presentation regarding the research topic of interest. The application form must be downloaded from the colleg's website and properly filled out along with copies of key papers that have been self-attested. The application and its supporting documentation can also be scanned and emailed to the admissions office.
