The School of Architecture and Planning, Chennai (SAP Chennai) under Anna University started its run as the Department of Agriculture under the University of Madras, in the year 1957. At that time, the department offered a single degree – a Bachelor's degree in Architecture - with an intake of just 20 students. In the 60+ years since its inception, SAP Chennai now stands as a separate institute and offers a handful of courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
At the undergraduate level, candidates can apply for admission to their 5-year B.Arch degree.
SAP Chennai is affiliated with Anna university, a state university in Tamil Nadu. SAP Chennai is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
To support students in their learning journey, SAP Chennai features a very well-stocked library featuring over 13,000 publications, fully furnished labs, smart classrooms, a multipurpose auditorium, and access to high-speed Wi-Fi on campus. There are separate hostel facilities for boys and girls available on campus, in addition to outdoor and indoor sports facilities, a round-the-clock medical centre and a canteen serving nutritious and tasty food.
SAP Chennai conducts online college admissions. Admissions are granted on a merit basis and the candidate’s scores are from the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA). Candidates whose names are published in the merit list can then go ahead with the counselling. For students from economically weaker backgrounds, there are a number of scholarships available on a merit basis.

Admission Procedure
The admission of the School of Architecture and Planning, Chennai is merit-based. The admission is done online. Admission is merit-based on a marking of 200. The counselling is done after the merit list is out. For SC and ST categories the requirement is 40% and for General Category the requirement is 45%. The B.Arch requires qualification in the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) Exam which is conducted by the Council of Architecture. The counselling is done after the merit list is out.
