Mrinalini Dutta Mahavidyapith, Kolkata (MDM Kolkata) was established on 5 March 1964 with the intention of serving the growing student population in Birati and the surrounding rural and semi-urban districts of 24 Parganas North. Under the direction of Birati Sikkha Sansad, the social workers of Birati established MDM Kolkata with the goal of making higher education accessible and cheap to students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
MDM Kolkata was given its name in honor of Smt. Mrinalini Devi, Sri Santosh Chandra Datta's kind donor and mother. Initially affiliated with the University of Calcutta, MDM Kolkata has since changed affiliations to West Bengal State University, Barasat. MDM Kolkata offers B. A., B. A. Honours, B. Com., B. Com. Honours, B. Sc., B. Sc. Honours, M. A., and M. Com. degrees. The admissions procedure is entirely ONLINE, orderly, and student-friendly.
MDM Kolkata has a dedicated and trained faculty. The goal of the faculty is to educate the young to ensure effective knowledge assimilation while also keeping in mind the practical purpose of education and the holistic development of the mind and soul.
MDM Kolkata is well-equipped with a range of facilities that enable our students to pursue their studies in a safe and comfortable environment. MDM Kolkata has well-furnished science labs with an internet connection, a canteen, a central library with 29102 textbooks, 7129 reference books and internet facilities (empowered by KOHA software), a well-maintained playground, separate common rooms for both male and female students, separate gymnasium for both male and female students, separate washrooms for male and female students, a solar panel, a students union room, 4 smart classrooms, 1 smart notice board, 1 virtual classroom, an auditorium, 2 seminar/conference rooms, an alumni association room and a girls' hostel.
The Training & Placement cell of MDM Kolkata supports the efforts of the faculty by planning value-added programs and giving students placement chances. The students of MDM Kolkata get placed in companies like TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, Deloitte, IBM, etc. MDM Kolkata provides financial aid in the form of grants, scholarships, and other types of financial aid from the state, the federal government, and other national organizations.
Some of MDM Kolkata's financial sources include the G.P. Birla Foundation, the K.C. Mahindra Education Trust, and the Moulana Azad Scholarship.
