Regarded as the first self-financing institute in India, Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) Chennai is known to show the country new fields of specialisation on the education front. Established in 1949, with an objective to impart quality technical education and help students turn into universally competent professionals, MIT Chennai offers career-enriching undergraduate courses.

Affiliated with Anna Technological and Research University the subjects offered by MIT Chennai are moulded in a way which outlines their practical importance. It is also recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The faculty team of MIT Chennai is led by reputed and experienced teaching members. At present, MIT Chennai offers both part and full-time courses in B.E in Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering as well as B.Tech in Rubber and Plastic Technology, and Information Technology. The faculty is led by reputed teaching members who are experienced in their respective fields. In addition to providing the best in terms of education, the faculty also publishes journals and research papers, which are made accessible to the students.

Admissions at MIT Chennai are conducted following an online procedure. The final list is prepared on the basis of marks scored out of 200. MIT Chennai also offers scholarship programs like Anna University Chennai Cognizant Foundation Scholarship, AICTE scholarship, Tamil Nadu E- District scholarships and many more which are awarded on the basis of students’ merit. Top-notch firms like Accenture, Oracle, Philips Innovation, and many more take part in the placement drive of the college.

 MIT Chennai’s placement cell co-exists alongside the Center for University-Industry Collaboration (CUIC). The placement cell has provided students with good packages in companies such as Accenture, Oracle, Philips Innovation, and many more. Students can also secure internships, virtual internships and industrial training with the help of the placement cell.

MIT Chennai campus library currently has over 94,028 books covering solely science and engineering topics. MIT Chennai also boasts of updated laboratories equipped with the latest technology to support research on a minute basis.

Additionally, the classrooms are equipped with boards, projectors and proper lighting to foster a positive learning culture. WiFi facilities are also available for the students on campus. A distinct open-air theatre known as Rajam Hall hosts multiple events in the college. The beautiful campus also features a lush green playground stretching over 28 acres. This ground plays a vital role in keeping the students engaged outside the classroom. MIT Chennai canteen here serves nutritious meals at affordable prices. The campus also has a separate health care centre that provides both medical as well as counselling services. There is also a physical fitness room for interested students to train in. Comfortable hostel rooms for boys, girls and NRI students are provided separately.

Admission Procedure

The admission to Madras Institute of Technology Chennai is merit-based. The admission is done online for the students (co-ed) for various specialisations under B.E and B.Tech in Information Technology and Rubber and Plastic Technology. 

MIT Chennai also offers M.E, M.Tech, M.Sc, MS (Research) and PhD courses. Candidates for all postgraduate courses must hold a B.E. or B. Tech degree in a relevant field from an accredited university. And for a PhD course candidate should have a Master's degree with a minimum of 60% marks.
