Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat (JNC) is the oldest higher learning institute in Arunachal Pradesh. Currently located on a scenic hilltop by the Siang river, JNC was first established in the barracks of Assam Rifles in 1964, with 42 students and 8 faculty members in the Arts stream. JNC is sprawled over two campuses: the Upper Campus houses the administrative block, teaching departments and the library, while the Lower Campus is primarily used as student and staff residences. JNC remained the only higher learning institution in Arunachal Pradesh till 1978 and continues to be one of the most prominent institutions in the North East.

Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar. JNC offers 14 undergraduate courses - 8 in Arts: B.A. in English, Hindi, Geography, Political Science, History, Education, Economics and Sociology; 5 in Science: B.Sc. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology; 1 in Commerce: B.Com. Of late, 4 postgraduate degrees - M.A. in History, Geography, Hindi and English are added to the list of courses offered. The vision JNC is to provide excellent higher education with integrity, consistency and due diligence. The faculty are drawn from all over the country, having expertise in their own field of research and training. They work tirelessly towards imparting quality education, which remains the main plank of enterprise at JNC.

The Placement Cell coordinates with students as well as companies to arrange for recruitment. The library at JNC is one of the richest in North-eastern India, with over 44000 printed texts, 35000 e-books and 6000 journals, and also serves as a repository of some of the rare regional publications. There are 9 boys hostels and 4 girls hostels on the campus. Students belonging to the Arunachal Tribes are given first preference subject to the availability of seats on the basis of merit. Of all the seats available, 40% of seats are earmarked for fifth-semester students, 35% for third-semester students and 25% for first-semester students, 2 seats are reserved for PWD category students.

Admission to JNC takes place online, but admission fees are to be paid offline at the college counter, after verification of requisite documents. Students belonging to Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribes (APST) are entitled to receive a stipend at government-given rates, subject to the conditions mentioned therewith. The entire process of application, processing and disbursement of stipend is done digitally through the online National Scholarship Portal.

Admission Procedure

Admission to Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat takes place online. Candidates are requested to use an updated web browser, preferrably Chrome. The LOGIN/REGISTER tab allows them to register using a valid email ID. Applications are successfully submitted after filling up the required fields and uploading the supporting documents, and the confirmation page appears. The names of selected candidates are notified later on the website. The selected candidates need to produce printed copy of the confirmation page as well as all supporting documents for verification thereafter. The admission fee has to be paid offline at JNC counter post-verification.
