Indian Maritime University (IMU), Kolkata is a government autonomous university recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), India. IMU, Kolkata was instituted as a central university in November 2008 with the passing of an Act (22) of Parliament. IMU, Kolkata aims to develop trained human resources in the maritime sector and comprises two constituent institutes- the Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI) and the Indian Institute of Port Management (IIPM).
Indian Maritime University, Kolkata is situated on Taratala Road, Kolkata, West Bengal. The IMU, Kolkata campus houses spacious classrooms with air-conditioning facilities, a well-stocked library, state-of-the-art computer laboratories, an auditorium with a seating capacity of 1000 people, and model-making workshops. The campus is also equipped with first aid facilities and a medical centre and accommodates facilities for a variety of indoor and outdoor sports. IMU has a residential campus with hostels for boys and girls with study rooms, messes, and T.V. rooms.
IMU Kolkata offers three academic programmes: B.Tech in Marine Engineering, M.Tech in Marine Engineering and Management, and MBA in International Transportation and Logistics Management. Admissions into these programmes are conducted through a university-conducted Common Entrance Test (IMU-CET). Applicants are required to present a certificate of medical fitness awarded by a doctor approved by the Director General of Shipping. In addition to these programmes, MERI, Kolkata also offers STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) and MEO (Marine Engineer Officer) class-I preparatory courses. Admission Procedure
Indian Maritime University(co-ed) in Kolkata has a single B.Tech degree programme in Marine Engineering. Every year, IMU holds a Common Entrance Test (IMU-CET) on All India basis for admissions to its courses for IMU campuses. As a result, candidates seeking admission to the B.Tech programme must pass the IMU-CET.
IMU Kolkata also offers postgraduate degrees ( M.Tech / MBA) Programs with various specializations. Interested candidates can apply through their online website. To apply for their degree candidate must qualify for an entrance examination IMU -CET with valid marks. Candidates must also present a certificate of medical fitness from a doctor approved by the Director General of Shipping. Candidates who have received an IMU CET Rank Certificate will be sent to a portal where they can choose the program(s) and campus(es) where they wish to enroll.
