About CLAT 2025
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by India's 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) and several other affiliated universities and institutes.
The Consortium of National Law Universities, comprising representative universities, organizes CLAT. Admission to the 5-year integrated LL.B programs and LL.M programs is based on the scores or ranks obtained in this examination.
The CLAT is primarily concerned with assessing candidates' comprehension and reasoning abilities. Overall, it is intended to be a test of aptitude and skills required for a legal education rather than prior knowledge.
The CLAT exam for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels is two hours in offline mode and consists of 120 multiple-choice questions. The examination is conducted annually, usually towards the end of the year in December.
