Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra was established by the famous industrialist Mr. B.M. Birla in 1955. BIT, Mesra was a pioneer in many fields, which includes being the first technical institution in the country to establish a Department of Space Engineering and Rocketry, build a static rocket test firing facility, and the first to offer postgraduate programmes in association with the Indian Space Research Organisation.

BIT, Mesra is deemed to be university, and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). BIT, Mesra offers 13 undergraduate (UG), 34 postgraduate (PG), 5 integrated, and 41 doctorate (PhD) courses. The undergraduate courses that can be pursued at the Institute are B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production and Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering with specialisation in Plastics and Polymer, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Technology, and Biotechnology; Bachelor of Architecture; Bachelor of Pharmacy; and Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology. The academics at BIT, Mesra is carried out in classrooms and more than 65 course-specific laboratories. The laboratories are equipped with cutting-edge technologies and equipment which are constantly updated. BIT, Mesra Campus houses a shopping centre for the 5000 residents and includes restaurants, salons, stationery stores, tailors as well as places to hang out. The medical facility at BIT, Mesra is well-equipped with several facilities. BIT, Mesra Dispensary is a fully functional Health Care Centre with facilities for OPD, IPD as well as emergency cases. The shuttle services at BIT, Mesra include 9 buses that run on scheduled timings along with multiple four-wheeler vehicles and trucks.

Additional services include banking facilities and 3 ATMs as well as a dedicated India Post Office branch which also houses a counter for the Indian Railways.

Admission Procedure

The admission process of Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, is conducted online. For B.Tech and B.Arch admissions, the eligible students (co-ed) who have passed their 10+2 board examination need to register themselves and after the counselling process, they need to pay the requisite admission fees via UPI/Card Payment/Net Banking to secure a seat. The B.Pharm admissions are done on the basis of a merit list prepared with a weightage of 60% on the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Mains)/ National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET-UG) score and 40% on the 10+2 board examination marks. For the BHMCT admissions, the process involves an Entrance Test and an Interview.
