The Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) set up the Army Institute of Law (AIL) in 1999 in Patiala. It wasn’t until July of 2003 that the residential institute shifted to its current location – Mohali. A pioneer institute for legal education in the country, the institute embodies its motto of ‘Aspire & Achieve’.

At the undergraduate level, Army Institute of Law, Mohali currently offers the B.A LL.B. programme, a 5 year course open to candidates who have successfully completed their 10+2 school leaving examination. AIL Mohali is affiliated to the Punjabi University, Patiala. They are also recognised by the Bar Council of India (BCI).

AIL Mohali has a sprawling campus located strategically near the Chandigarh and Punjab and Haryana High Court. They aim to provide the best quality legal education to its students, preparing them for civil, judicial, armed forces or corporate services and of course for the Bar. They strongly believe in inculcating a sense of national pride and moral and ethical values in their students. A number of cash prizes and scholarship schemes have been made available by AIL Mohali and its collaborators that are available on a merit basis for deserving students.

Admission Procedure

A candidate who has passed the Punjab School Education Board's 10+2 examination or any other similar examination recognised as such by the Punjabi University, Patiala, with a minimum of 45 per cent marks is eligible to apply in the Army Institute of Law, Mohali. The applicants who have obtained 10+2 through open university systems directly, without having any basic qualifications for pursuing is, are not eligible for admission to Law Courses. Distribution of seats will be done through the Online Law Entrance Test (LET) conducted by AIL Mohali at designated test centres. Punjab Resident Civil Category will be based on 10+2 merit, drawn up by the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar as per the notification issued by Govt. of Punjab on the basis of centralised online counselling. 

AIL Mohali also offers post-graduate programs LL.M degree courses, as per the guidelines of Punjabi University, Patiala candidates must complete the graduation (BA.LLB / LLB) with 55% marks from a recognised university or equivalent. Admission is based on the merit score basis.

Faculty

The faculty of the Army Institute of Law, Mohali consists of core faculty alongside the adjacent faculty and the guest faculty. The teaching faculty consists of experienced teachers. The faculty also publishes articles on varied topics and those are made accessible to all.

The Army Institute of Law, Mohali has been proud to announce successful placements for students who choose campus placements. AIL's placement cell, which is led by a placement officer, assists students in obtaining positions with law firms and corporations. Students from AIL have established themselves in top-tier law firms and corporations.
