AGP-Left tie-up for Ratabari

lAfter bagging Khumtai in the last bypoll, the AGP has decided to play safe for the one in Karimganj’s Ratabari, striking up an electoral deal with the Marxist Manch. The Manch is a lesser-known political outfit but has a sizeable presence in the constituency. AGP leader Biren Baishya said the alliance would name its common candidate at the AGP’s executive committee meet on Monday. While the BJP has named Shambu Mala, who had represented the seat, the Congress is yet to announce its candidate.

Civilian shot at

lA tribal civilian Biswaram Reang was shot in the right hand by a group of Borok National Council of Tripura militants at his residence in the remote Sadanandapara village under Tripura’s Kanchanpur sub-division for refusing to work for the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura in the February 26 elections.

Burnt alive

lA man was burnt alive when a fire broke out at a kerosene sub-dealer’s house at Kongpal in Imphal East on Sunday. The victim, a handy man of a fuel tanker, was inside the house when the fire broke out. The house was completely gutted and the body charred beyond recognition.

Doner funds

lDoner has released Rs 160.8 crore for eight projects in Assam under the non-lapsable central pool of resources, minister of state for planning and development Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.

Forest officials

lTwo forest officials, who were suspended on allegations of encouraging deforestation by illegal encroachers and smugglers in the Chariduar reserve forest, are evading arrest.

Liaison camp

lDima Halam Daoga chief Jewel Garlosa inaugurated a liaison camp of the outfit at Digrik village, 1.5 km from Haflong in the North Cachar Hills district on Sunday. Deputy commissioner Syed Iftikar Hussain, superintendent of police T.P. Singh and officials of the army and the CRPF were also present.

Policemen killed

lTwo policemen were killed and one was injured in Nagaon on Sunday when one of them went berserk and opened indiscriminate fire. The incident took place at Nagaon police reserve when constable Phanindra Sharma opened fire killing constable Dimbeshwar Bora and injuring Satindra Nath.
