Imphal, Feb. 15: Tiddim Road Athletic Union stormed into the semi-final of the 4th Loktak Trophy at Moirang in Bishnupur district, defeating Youth Welfare Club by 5-2 goals.
In the quarter-final, Youth Welfare Club sprung an early surprise with their second minute goal from a penalty.
Tiddim Road player Jimmy Carter handled the ball while trying to clear a corner kick, resulting in the penalty. A. Anand beat the Tiddim keeper to perfection to take the lead.
The Tiddim Road Athletic Union got their equaliser when Abocha Singh restored parity from a free kick goal in the 12th minute.
Tiddim Road Athletic Union were soon all over the place and got the lead in the 28th minute as Arun Singh drove home a grounder after he collected a goalline pass from Herojit Singh.
Tiddim Road forward L. Tiken Meitei made things look easy as he scored his team’s third goal in the 32nd minute.
Lunminlal Khongsai fetched his team’s fourth goal in the 43rd minute with able support from L. Tiken Singh.
Tiddim Road scored their fifth goal, as Surchand Singh slammed home just before the first half whistle in the 45th minute to post a 5-1 lead.
Youth Welfare Club found their second goal with F. Larzarzo firing home in the 56th minute but Tiddim Road tightened their defence for a 5-2 victory.
North Eastern Reorganising and Cultural Association will take on Manipur Police Sports Club in another quarter-final tomorrow.
Nilgiri Cup
Eight climbers representing the North East Zone will participate in the Nilgiri Cup at Madras Regimental Centre, Wellington, Tamil Nadu, from February 19-20.
The climbers comprise Teimiki Sungoh, Haka Dam Em Bok, Emila I. Langbok from Meghayala and K. Surjit Singh, S. Devala Devi, T. Inaoba Singh, H. Mimar Singh and Y. Prem Singh of Manipur.
L. Dayananda and Rk. Satyajit will accompany the team as manager and coach.
Memorial football: The 3rd Lamyamba Hijam Irawat Memorial Invitation Football Tournament will begin from February 25 at Moreh in Chandel district.
A cash award of Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 50,000 will be awarded to the winners and runners-up team.
