Golaghat, Feb. 1: Numaligarh Refinery Ltd will organise the Numaligarh Marathon, 2016, for the first time on February 21.
At a briefing on the event, at the NRL township today, organising committee chairman Manash Rai Baruah said the run, which is open for both male and female participants, will be of 10km. It will start from Numaligarh High School at 6.20am and culminate at the township ground.
"The theme of the event is run to keep fit and spread awareness to lead a hale and hearty life and inspire people of this area to remain energetic and healthy," Baruah said. The event will be divided into three categories - run for fun (3km), dream run (5km) and endurance run (10km), he added.
There will be prize money in every category and there will be separate prizes for male and female participants.
To participate in the event, one can register online free of cost by logging on to www.numaligarhmarathon.com till 9pm on February 18. Forms will also be available at various designated locations from February 10.
Luminaries from various fields, including ace boxer MC Mary Kom, former Indian field hockey player M.M. Somaya, Mr Universe Mahadev Deka, Arjuna awardees Monalisha Baruah Mehta, Kamlesh Mehta and Bhogeswar Barua, are expected to grace the occasion.
NRL general manager, commercial and legal, Debasish Choudhury, general manager operations, Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, and public relations officer Mintu Handique were also present at the news conference today.
Lawn bowls: Mridul Borgohain became the first person to win a gold medal for India in lawn bowls, having won it in men's fours in the 11th Asian Lawn Bowls Championship at Brunei today. Earlier, Assam woman player Bongita Hazarika bagged a bronze for India in women's fours.
