The 12-hour Tinsukia bandh called in protest against the killing of three persons by the Ulfa in Dighaltorong Tea Estate near Doom Dooma on October 11 evoked total response. The bandh was called by a joint forum of parties and organisations, led by the Tinsukia District Nagarik Sanstha. he Purbottar Hindustani Sammelan and the Bengali Hindu Yuba Chatra Federation have also called a statewide 12-hour bandh on Wednesday in protest against the killings. B>lThe army, CRPF and police have launched combing operations to track down Abdul Mannan Khan, senior block development officer of the Dharamsala block in Dhubri, who was kidnapped by suspected Ulfa militants on Monday. Mannan was abducted by four militants from outside his office. An NDFB militant was killed in an encounter with the army in Phulguri area of Sonitpur district while armyman Ramkant Singh succumbed to his injuries later. One AK 56 rifle, two magazines of nine-mm carbine and 32 live rounds of nine-mm carbine were recovered from the slain militant.B>lChief wildlife warden of Assam will represent the state government at the first meeting of the newly-constituted National Board for Wildlife in New Delhi on Wednesday.
