It kickstarted functioning in 1951 under the helming of Mr. Kulapathi APC Veerabhau and now is managed by V.O Chidambaram Educational Society. Affiliated with Tirunelveli's Manonmaniam Sundaranar University VOCC, Thoothukkudi provides undergraduate, graduate, and research programs. Admission to this college is granted solely on the basis of merit and eligibility criteria.

V.O. Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi (VOCC) follows an online method of admission. Applicants to VOCC, Thoothukudi are selected on the basis of merit and eligibility criteria. VOCC, Thoothukudi offers Undergraduate courses under the faculty of Science, Arts, Commerce and Management. Aspiring (Undergraduate) BA, BBA and BCom applicants to VOCC, Thoothukudi must have passed Higher Secondary Examination from any recognized board with any stream and with Commerce subjects repsectively. Aspiring BSc applicants to VOCC, Thoothukudi must have passed Higher Secondary Examination from any recognized board with respective Science subjects according to the concerned department.
