Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R and D Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai (VTRSRDIST Chennai) was established in 1997 as an engineering college, with the support of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The Educational-Philanthropic Personalities, Dr. R. Rangarajan, Chancellor and Founder President, and Dr.Sagunthala Rangarajan, Foundress President, are credited with its founding. Initially affiliated with the University of Madras, VTRSRDIST Chennai attained affiliation with Anna University, Chennai in 2001 and was then granted 'Deemed to be University status by UGC in 2008. VTRSRDIST Chennai is approved with AICTE, and its motto is "A Place to Progress and Prosper".
VTRSRDIST Chennai offers BTech, B.B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., 5 Year B.A.+ LL.B. (Hons.), B.Com+LL.B. (Hons.), M.Tech., MBA, MSc, MA, and Ph.D. degrees. VTRSRDIST Chennai follows both online and offline admission procedures and the form can be obtained either from the official website or the campus office.
VTRSRDIST Chennai has dedicated and trained faculty. The goals of the faculty are to cultivate scholarly leadership towards global competence and growth beyond oneself in a calm, welcoming, and free academic environment; to promote excellence in teaching, learning, creativity, and research; to translate knowledge into practice; to foster multidisciplinary research across science, medicine, engineering, technology, and the humanities.
VTRSRDIST Chennai boasts a sizeable 66.75-acre expanse of lush green land, with a total built-up area measure of 1.5 Lakh sq.m. Meeting the requisite standards, VTRSRDIST Chennai boasts a good array of facilities, including classrooms, labs, tutorial rooms, active learning spaces, seminar halls, workshops, drawing halls, exam cells, and libraries according to regulations. The labs are also outfitted with machines and equipment, as well as computers, software, and other necessary facilities for work on the curriculum and research. Wi-Fi devices are moreover provided throughout the campus. A wide variety of resources in the form of printed books, e-books, book banks, national and international printed journals, back volumes of journals, e-journals, and CDs are available for use. Additionally, VTRSRDIST Chennai has a 432sq m Yoga hall for students to practice yoga and it also provides indoor game facilities like Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Carrom, Karate, Kabaddi, and Billiards. Outdoor game facilities including Football, Hockey, Cricket, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Handball, Basketball, Ball badminton, Throwball, and Futsal are also well established in the area with more than 20 acres of land. In addition to that, there are 4 fully equipped gymnasiums, each with an approximate area of 109sq m. There are existing facilities including 8-lane running tracks for the 200 and 400 meters, relay, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, etc.

The campus infrastructure facilitates hiring processes such as Pre-Placement Talks (PPT), Online Assessments, Group Discussions (GD), and Interviews, creating a platform to immerse oneself in the professional atmosphere. For UG admission, candidates must pass HSC(10+2) from any board. For Btech, candidates either can score high in VTUEEE exam or get admission directly by paying the required amount. For BALLB/BComLLB admission, candidates either can score high in CLAT/LSAT or et admission directly by paying the required amount.
For PG admission, candidates must complete bachelor's degree from any university. And for PhD admission, master's degree is required.
