Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla is a government state university and the oldest engineering university in Odisha. VSSUT Burla was established in 1956 as the first engineering college of Odisha, then named “University College of Engineering (UCE), Burla”. Then-prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundations of the college, and the institute’s administrative control was later taken by the Sambalpur University, followed by the Biju Patnaik University of Technology. VSSUT Burla finally culminated into an independent university in 2009 after several student campaigns for independent recognition of the university throughout 2008. VSSUT Burla is a University Grants Commission-approved university.
The VSSUT Burla campus spans about 502 acres of land in Burla and is equipped with facilities such as spacious and well-equipped classrooms, smart classes, tutorial rooms, a state-of-the-art central workshop, well-equipped computer laboratory facilities, sports and recreation infrastructure, a well-stocked library, a 1200-seater auditorium, 12 furnished hostels, free shuttle services for students, cafeterias, and medical facilities.
Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Burla offers undergraduate degrees such as B.Tech degrees in 10 specialisations, integrated B.Tech-M.Tech degrees in two specialisations over five years, and a B Arch degree. Admissions into B Tech are conducted based on the candidate’s performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main or the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE); candidates must participate in the OJEE counselling for final seat allotments. Admission to the other courses is also handled similarly. Postgraduate programmes offered by VSSUT include M Tech, MSc, M Phil, MCA, and PhD.

Several scholarships and awards are granted by various government and private organisations through VSSUT Burla. Some of the scholarship schemes offered by the university include the "Nehru Memorial Scholarship”, the "National Scholarship”, the "MCL Scholarship”, and the "Jindal Trust Scholarship". Students are also offered the "Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme" by VSSUT Burla based on their JEE ranks. Besides academic programmes and events, VSSUT Burla also boasts a plethora of extra-curricular student activities and organisations conducted all year round. VSSUT Burla houses both NCC and NSS units and hosts a variety of student clubs for photography, robotics, dramatics, and yoga among several others. VSSUT Burla also organises the annual national-level techno-management festival “Samavesh” annually in January/February; it has grown to become the largest technical festival in Odisha and is poised towards becoming the largest tech fest of its kind in India.

Admission Procedure
The Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology(co-ed) provides B.Tech degrees in 10 specialisations, integrated B.Tech-M.Tech degrees in two specialisations over five years, and a B.Arch degree. Candidates for B.Tech admissions must take the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main or the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) and participate in the OJEE counselling for final seat allotments. Admission to the other courses is generally handled similarly. Students who are selected through the entrance tests for admission to various programmes must register online using the link given on the VSSUT official website.
VSSUT Burla also offers admissions to other courses such as M.Tech, MCA, M.sc, M.Phil and PhD courses in a variety of specialisations. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam scores are used to determine eligibility for admission to any M.Tech programme. Academic Career Assessment is used in an open selection procedure to determine who gets into the M.Sc. programmes. For M.Phil. and PhD programmes, an entrance exam will be administered by VSSUT Burla which was followed by an interview.

The VSSUT Burla, Placement Cell exposes students to internship and training programmes in reputable industries such as NVIDIA, Nokia, KPMG, ITC, L&T, Hindalco, Vedanta, NALCO, TATA Steel, and others. They are taken on industry visits, where they solve problems and work on projects. Infosys, Deloitte, IBM, TATA Electronics, Wipro, Amazon, SMS India, and Mindtree are some of the reputable companies where the students have been placed.
