University of Calcutta or Calcutta University, Kolkata (CU) was established in 1857 and is one of the oldest and most reputed Universities in India. CU, Kolkata has many notable alumni and faculty members who have been social reformers, prominent artists, heads of state and government, award winners, etc. Their list of eminent faculty and alumni is vast. Calcutta University, Kolkata plays a very important role in promoting higher education in the Eastern region being one of the largest Universities in Eastern India. CU, Kolkata has high standards when it comes to education, and the students graduating from this University are some of the best students in the country making major contributions in various professional sectors of society.

CU, Kolkata has fourteen campuses spanning across Kolkata, the major ones being Ashutosh Siksha Prangan ( it is commonly known as College Street Campus) which is the main campus, Rashbehari Siksha Prangan ( it is commonly known as Rajabazar Science College), Taraknath Palit Siksha Prangan ( it is commonly known as Ballygunge Science College Campus), Sahid Kshudriam Siksha Prangan ( commonly known as Alipore Campus). CU, Kolkata has over 9 academic departments and more than 200 courses to offer. The university campuses mostly offer postgraduate degrees such as M. Sc, M. Com. M.A, M. Tech, M. Phil, Doctorates, etc. Certain departments also offer undergraduate programmes for their students.

The faculty of CU, Kolkata can be regarded as one of the best in their respective fields. Most of the faculty members are highly experienced in the field of teaching and education and are either Doctorates or pursuing doctorates in their respective fields. M.A, M.A/M. Sc students must submit their applications online for admission, the university releases a merit list. For 4year B.Tech Admission, all the students who have been allotted seats by the WBJEE board after the 1st, 2nd and Mop Up rounds, after their verification should enroll first and fill up the forms via online mode at www.caluniv-ucsta.net/www.caluniv.ac.in. Candidates have to submit the application form along with the documents mentioned at the Secretary's office, Technology Campus. If it is found that any information given by the candidate is not in conformity with the original documents, the admission will be treated as canceled. For B.A.L.L.B, candidates must apply online at caluniv.ac.in. Admission will be based on merit. A merit list will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the best 4 subjects of the 10+2 level examination.

CU, Kolkata has its own set of infrastructural facilities to offer to its students. CU, Kolkata’s library houses a vast amount of more than 10 lakh books. There are a total of 2 lakh volumes of bound journals, manuscripts, reports, patents, standards, maps, newspapers, M.Phil and Ph.D. dissertations, microfilms, CD-ROMS, and proceedings of conferences when all the campuses of CU, Kolkata are taken together. CU, Kolkata also has a magnificent digital library with a vast amount of resources for the students to access. The University Grounds and Tent at Maidan is an open space of the University where various sporting activities are organized by CU, Kolkata. Apart from that CU, Kolkata also has a Rowing Club situated at Dhakuria Lake. CU, Kolkata promotes a sporting culture amongst its students. Through these initiatives, many talented students from various sporting backgrounds have been discovered, who also represent the University at prestigious tournaments.

CU, Kolkata provides its Science students with well-equipped labs with computers and modern technologies for them to conduct their practical classes smoothly. The University provides its students with satisfactory hostel facilities. There are currently 1550 students staying in the 16 halls and hostels under CU, Kolkata who are studying in the University Colleges of Arts, Law, Commerce, Science, and Technology.

Admission Procedure

For admission into M.A, M.A/M. Sc, candidates must submit their applications online. The University of Calcutta, Kolkata releases merit lists on its website.
