Named after Thanthai Periyar E. V. Ramasamy, a prominent social reformer and politician in Tamil Nadu.
TPGASC Tiruchirappalli was founded in 1966 by the Government of Tamil Nadu with the objective of providing quality education to the economically weaker and marginalized sections of society. It was established as a government-aided college but has now earned autonomy, which grants it greater academic freedom and administrative independence.

To apply for their degree candidate must qualify higher secondary education with valid marks from a recognize board. Final admission is based on merit basis. TPGASC Tiruchirapalli also offers Postgraduate degree with various specalization . To apply for their postgraduate degree candidate must completed graduation in relevant discpline. Fianal admission is based on merit basis.
