South Calcutta Girls' College (SCGC), Kolkata was established in 1932 and is the third oldest women’s college in the state of West Bengal. SCGC, Kolkata is committed to the holistic development of young women, preparing them to face the challenges of today.

Aside from encouraging academic achievement, SCGC, Kolkata emphasises self-confidence and instils good morals in students so that they can establish themselves as responsible individuals. SCGC, Kolkata is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is affiliated to the University of Calcutta (CU).

SCGC, Kolkata offers 36 undergraduate (UG) courses, among them 22 in Arts and 14 in Science. The courses in Arts are as follows: B.A (Hons) in Bengali, English, Education, Geography, History, Journalism and Mass Communication, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sanskrit, and Sociology; and B.A in Bengali, English, Education, Geography, History, Journalism and Mass Communication, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sanskrit, and Sociology. The courses from the Science stream which students can pursue at SCGC, Kolkata are B.Sc (Hons) in Botany, Economics, Geography, Psychology, and Zoology; and B.Sc in Botany, Chemistry, Economics, Geography, Mathematics, Physiology, Psychology, Statistics, and Zoology. Admission to the aforementioned courses can be secured by the students on the basis of their score in the 10+2 level examination.

Regular classes are conducted by highly qualified and experienced faculty members who work tirelessly towards imparting quality education, and no effort is spared to ensure the student a better future. Students are offered training and placement assistance by the Placement Cell of SCGC, Kolkata.

SCGC, Kolkata has all the necessary infrastructure for the all-round development of the students. The SCGC, Kolkata Library has a collection of over 23000 books, and provides members access to over 6000 e-journals and over 199500 e-books as well. Students are provided hostel accommodations at SCGC, Kolkata. Understanding the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle, SCGC, Kolkata has provisions for various games and sports, including a well-equipped indoor gymnasium and a recreation room with table tennis, carrom and chess facilities.
