Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune (SPPU Pune) which was formerly known as the University of Poona, was established in the year 1949 under the Poona University Act. SPPU Pune aims at creating thought and action leaders who are equipped with high-quality education over a wide domain. SPPU Pune is popularly known as the “Oxford of the East” and has 234 recognized institutes and 705 affiliated colleges which provide graduate and undergraduate courses.
SPPU Pune has 4 faculties and 293 teachers in the University Departments. The teaching faculties and the non-teaching faculties alike are experienced and dedicated to helping the students. To enhance the academic experience of the students, SPPU Pune also invites guest lecturers.
SPPU Pune provides a wide range of courses at the undergraduate level. They include Bachelor of Arts (Special), Bachelor of Arts (Restructure), Bachelor of Arts (General), Bachelor of Oriental Learning (B.O.L) in Sanskrit, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and B.A. Lalit Kala, Bachelor of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (B.H.M.C.T.), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) (External), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) (Restructured), Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc.) in Physical Education, Health Education and Sports, Diploma in Education for Deaf, Spl. Diploma in Education (Hearing Impaired), Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.), Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Social Legal Science (B.S.L), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Bachelor of Science (Restructure), Bachelor of Computer Science (B.C.S.) and Certificate and diploma course in Application-oriented Disciplines (Refrigeration, Radio Servicing, Television Servicing and Industrial Electronics). The courses vary over a duration of 1 year to 5 years depending upon the department and degree offered. Admission to the SPPU Pune is based on the marks obtained by the candidates in their board examinations at the 10+2 level from a recognized Board or Council in India.
SPPU Pune provides scholarships to students based on their merit. There are National Merit Scholarship, along with other scholarships are available for the students to help them facilitate their learning.
The students are provided with internships and training opportunities arranged by the placement cell. Companies and organizations like Amazon, Pantaloons and several other industries and corporates are invited by SPPU Pune for the placement of the students.
Hostel facilities are provided to the students strictly based on their merit. The SPPU Pune has six girls' hostels and seven boys' hostels. It is spread over an area of 411 acres and is well-equipped with various amenities. The traditional library of houses 4,50,627 books and journals as well as a wide collection of manuscripts and ancient texts. There is also a digital library. The WiFi-enabled campus has smart classrooms, laboratories equipped with the latest devices, 4 auditoriums furnished with the latest audio-visual facilities as well as an amphitheatre and a Moot Court.
SPPU Pune focuses on the physical fitness of students and has incorporated sports into the curriculum. There are amenities for sports like cricket, football, basketball, and volleyball as well as a swimming pool and a modern gym. There is also a recreation room facilitating indoor games such as chess, carrom, etc. Other facilities inside the campus include a cafeteria providing healthy food at affordable prices and banking and ATM services. The University also provides medical facilities to the students round the clock.

Admission Procedure
Savitribai Phule Pune University conducts an online admission procedure for the students (co-ed) to apply in various courses under B.A, B.Com, B.Sc, with multiple specialisations along with BFA, LL.B, B.Pharm, and BoL. The applying students are required to qualify in their 10+2 examinations to apply in any of the offered courses. The final admission will be based on the scores. The students must visit the official website for any admission-related details.
SPPU Pune also offers Post-Graduate, M.Phil, P.hD degrees ( LLM / MCA / M.SC / M.A/ M.Tech / Diploma ) with various specializations. Interested candidates can apply through their official website. For an M.tech degree candidate must qualify for an entrance examination Graduate Aptitude Test of Engineering ( GATE). SPPU Pune conducts admission process via an entrance examination and personal interview basis. And for a PhD degree candidate must qualify UGC-CSIR/ NET/GATE entrance examination.
