Located in Kolkata, Presidency University (PU Kolkata), formerly known as Hindoo College, laid its foundation stone in 1855 and now has been recognized as one of the leading institutions in India. The foundation committee of Hindoo College was headed by Raja Ram Mohan Roy. At the time of its foundation, PU Kolkata was one of the centres for providing Western-type higher education in Asia. It is an autonomous university which has been approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

PU Kolkata has a very rich teaching faculty team. The faculty members at the university are experienced and dedicated to imparting education and knowledge in the best possible way. They do their level best to fulfil students’ needs. PU Kolkata is a co-ed university which offers various undergraduate courses like B.A (Hons) in Bengali, English, Hindi, History, Performing Arts, Philosophy, Political Science, and Sociology; B.Sc (Hons) in Chemistry, Economics, Life Sciences, Geology, Geography, Mathematics, Statistics and Physics. Students willing to take admitted to undergraduate and doctorate programmes have to appear for the Presidency University Bachelor Degree Entrance Test (PUBDET). They have to apply for admission through the official website.

Needy and meritorious students are provided with a range of scholarships like the Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship/K3 Scholarship, Priyamvada Birla Scholarship, Harsh & Payal Hada Foundation, and Kanyashree Scholarship.

To provide an exceptional learning experience, PU Kolkata offers a traditional as well as a digital library, computer lab, 2 moot courts, and e-classrooms. Besides, students are also provided with other major facilities like bus services, separate hostel accommodation for boys and girls, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, a large air-conditioned auditorium, a seminar hall, and a cafeteria.

Admission Procedure

Presidency University Kolkata offers admission to a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate programmes such as B. A (Hons), B.Sc (Hons) in a number of specializations. Based on the results of the Presidency University Bachelor Degree Entrance Test (PUBDET) conducted by WBJEE, the University grants admission to undergraduate courses. Students who pass the exam with the required score must submit their applications online through the official website. After applicants' credentials have been checked and payments have been completed, admission is granted.

 

 

 

PU Kolkata also offers postgraduate and doctoral degrees. such as M.A., M.Sc and PhD courses. The University admits students to postgraduate programmes based on the outcomes of the Presidency University Master Degree Entrance Test (PUMDET), which is administered by WBJEE. For PhD course, the candidate must hold a Master's degree with at least 60% marks from a recognized university.
