Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER Chandigarh), located in Chandigarh, was established in 1962 with the major aim of providing postgraduate medical education at higher standards. The autonomous institute which is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) has been accredited by the Medical Council of India (MCI) as well. Students are provided with in-depth knowledge by faculty members who are well-experienced in all medical and surgical fields. 

PGIMER Chandigarh offers a number of undergraduate courses such as Bachelors of Physiotherapy, a Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science, and B.Sc. Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology, B.Sc. (Radiotherapy Technology), B.Sc. Medical Technology (Operation Theatre), B.Sc. Medical Technology (Perfusionist), B.Sc. (Embalming and Mortuary Science), Bachelor of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology (BASLP), B.Sc. Medical Technology (Dialysis Therapy Technology), Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom), Bachelor of Public Health (BPH), B.Sc. (Medical Animation and Audio-Visual Creation), B.Sc.Nursing and B.Sc.Nursing (Post Basics). Students willing to take admission to undergraduate courses are required to pass their 10+2 school leaving test from a recognised board of secondary education. Students who are seeking admission for B.Sc Nursing and B.Sc Nursing (Post Basic) are required to appear for the PGIMER Chandigarh entrance exam. All the students intending to take admitted to the PGIMER Chandigarh can register their names through the official website of the institution.

Students are provided with placement and internship opportunities in reputable organizations at PGIMER Chandigarh. Internship opportunities are offered to eligible students after completion of the course. The academic infrastructure of PGIMER Chandigarh is excellent as it consists of a large library with e-resources and internet connectivity, course-specific labs, well-equipped modern classrooms, on-campus high-speed internet connectivity and a large auditorium. Along with the academic facilities, PGIMER Chandigarh has separate hostel accommodations for ladies, bachelors, and married residents, a sports complex for both indoor and outdoor games, massive water sports complex, five canteens and a medical centre with a first-aid unit.

Admission Procedure

Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Chandigarh offers several undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate courses: such as Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B.Ph.T), Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS), and B.Sc. Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology, B.Sc. (Radiotherapy Technology), B.Sc. Medical Technology (Operation Theatre), B.Sc. Medical Technology (Perfusionist), B.Sc. (Embalming and Mortuary Science), Bachelor of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (BASLP), B.Sc. Medical Technology (Dialysis Therapy Technology), Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom), Bachelor of Public Health (BPH), B.Sc. (Medical Animation and Audio-Visual Creation).

Admission to UG programmes requires a 12th-grade certification from a recognised board with the required subjects. The National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), which is affiliated with the PGIMER Chandigarh, offers nursing degrees such as B.Sc. Nursing and B.Sc. Nursing (Post Basic) for four and two years, respectively. Admission to the B.Sc. Nursing and Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing courses are determined by a PGIMER entrance exam, which is followed by counselling. The number of seats available in each course and the eligibility requirements vary by program. Candidates seeking admission to PGIMER Chandigarh can register online and submit the requisite application form along with the application fee via the official website.

At a formal entrance exam, candidates applying for MD/MS programmes are evaluated based on a theory paper with multiple choice questions (MCQs) of the appropriate design and the eligibility criteria is an MBBS degree or equivalent. Courses for DM/M.Ch: A properly constructed theory paper in the form of MCQs is used to select candidates. For MDS Course Candidates are chosen based on performance on a theory test that consists of 100 multiple-choice questions.
