North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), Siliguri is a government medical college affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. NBMCH Siliguri is approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and is the oldest and biggest healthcare education college in North Bengal. NBMCH Siliguri was envisioned by Dr BC Roy, finally being instituted in 1968 with the planning and execution being overseen by the WB health minister, Ajit Kumar Panja. The institute was initially established as the North Bengal University Medical College under the North Bengal University; in August 1978, it was renamed to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital and the administration was shifted to the West Bengal Government.
NBMCH Siliguri is situated on a huge 161-acre campus offering top-notch facilities such as well-ventilated classrooms, auditoriums, state-of-the-art laboratories, a well-stocked library, sports facilities, hostel accommodation, and a plethora of other services and amenities such as a canteen, emergency unit, post office, police outpost, and banking facilities.
Courses offered by NBMCH Siliguri include MBBS at the undergraduate level, foundation courses for MBBS, MD/MS at the postgraduate level, and research-level super-specialisation courses. Undergraduate applications for admission to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital are submitted online. Candidates applying for MBBS programmes must complete the CBSE-sponsored NEET UG exam and meet the minimum eligibility requirement of at least 50% in the HSC with PCBE.
