The National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (NITJ) was established in 1960 with a major aim of becoming a leading technical institution across the country. The prestigious institute holds an objective of producing more technologically competent professionals for the service of society.
The NITJ is a government institute that is considered to be a ‘Deemed University’.
Students are taught by a group of well-qualified faculty members who are dedicated to imparting knowledge and information in technological fields. The co-ed institute offers various undergraduate courses such as B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, B.Tech in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, B.Tech in Civil Engineering, B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering and B.Tech in Production and Industrial Engineering. Students willing to take admission in NITJ must qualify for the JEE (Main) exam. Scores obtained in the JEE (Main) determine the allocation of seats for students. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) / Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) conducts a Common Counseling Process for students. Besides, students must have passed their 10+2 school leaving test from a recognised board of secondary education.
Students are provided with scholarship schemes like Merit Cum Means Scholarships, NTPC scholarship for engineering students. Besides, physically challenged candidates receive 500 scholarships from the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation.
Students are assisted by a well-versed Training and Placement Cell to get internships and training programmes. The necessary infrastructure for conducting group discussions, assessments, and interviews is provided by the Placement Cell. More than 100 organizations take an active part in placement drives conducted by the NITJ every year. Placement drives at NITJ observe the highest package of 72.5 LPA and an average of 14.72 LPA.

Admission Procedure
The National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur runs an admission procedure for the students (co-ed) in courses of Engineering (B.Tech) based on the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) via the JoSAA/CSAB portal. Candidates must go to the examination website's official webpage to receive the necessary information and apply.
Following their participation, candidates must get the required qualifying marks to meet the NIT Jamshedpur cut-off to register for the appropriate course, followed by the candidates' final admission procedure with the admission fee payment.
NIT Jamshedpur also postgraduate courses in M.Tech, M.Sc, MCA and doctorate (PhD) courses. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score is used to determine which M. Tech. students are accepted. JAM scores from the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) exam and the Centralised Counselling for M.Sc. (CCMN) process are used to determine admission to M.Sc. programmes. The NIT MCA Common Entrance Test (NIMCET) exam, which is jointly administered by NITs, serves as the basis for admission to the MCA programme. A candidate for a PhD programme should have a Master's degree with at least 60% overall. The departments' tests and interviews are used to determine which candidates will be hired.

The National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur has a Training & Placement Cell that helps students find employment after graduation and collaborates with major corporations and institutes to build up internship and training programmes for students. The office works with a variety of industrial firms, corporate houses, and other organisations that perform campus interviews and select graduate and post-graduate students from a variety of fields. The Training and Placement Cell offers the necessary infrastructure for conducting group discussions, assessments, and interviews, as well as other logistical needs. The Office works with a wide range of industries around the country, with roughly 100+ organisations visit the NITJ campus for campus placements. The placement season lasts throughout the year, from the last week of July to the end of June.
