National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, Thanjavur (NIFTEM Thanjavur) was founded by Dr. V. Subrahmanyan. an eminent scientist in 1984. Initially NIFTEM Thanjavur was focused in research about identifying the technologies for post harvest procession and preservation of paddy. But gradually the researchers identified and strengthened their area of research to uplift biotechnology necessitated for bio-processinbg of food grain by expanding the research and development visionary.

NIFTEM Thanjavur offers its undergraduate program with Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] in Food Technology; postgraduate degree with Master of Technology [M.Tech] in the same discipline a sof the undergradauate course with specialisation like Food Process Technology, food Safety and Quality Assurance, etc. The doctoral program is Ph.d. in Food Process Engineering and Food Process Technology.

NIFTEM Thanjavur campus creates an extremely well facilitated campus withy throughout wifi connectivity. The classrooms, seminar halls and laboratories have exclusive technology aided facilities and audiovisual learning experience. The library service is commendable both in terms of its ampoule number of printed text resources and online resources. There are separate hostels for Girls’ and Boys’ which regularly maintained to uplift the living conditions of thew outstation students, with dinng and recreational rooms. All these facilities come together to create an environment that is conducive to learning and development of the students’ overall campus life.

Admission Procedure

National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, Thanjavur conducts its admission process according to the guidelines of the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The students interested in seeking admission for undergraduate course of B.Tech at NIFTEM Thanjavur can apply through the official website of the institute. The admissions for the undergraduate degree courses are made according to the merits secured individually in their 10+2 or equivalent exam with relevant stream from a recognised board along with the qualifying marks obtained in the Joint Entrance Examination - Main (JEE- Main).

The selection of the applicants for the postgraduate degree courses like M.Tech is made according to the merits secured by the students in their undergraduate degree courses in the relevant subject discipline from a recognised university. For the Ph.D degree courses, the selection of the applicants is made according to the merits secured by the students in their postgraduate degree courses in the relevant subject discipline from a recognised university.

For applying in M.Tech and Ph.D courses, students are also required to obtain qualifying marks in the entrance exam conducted by NIFTEM Thanjavur.
