National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Srinagar has been operational since 2016. Currently, it is housed on a temporary campus in the SIDCO electronic complex, Rangreth, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The permanent campus has been under construction in Budgam and is expected to be operational soon.

The undergraduate courses offered at the NIFT Srinagar, campus are B.Des in Fashion Design, Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories, and Fashion Communication. All three courses are 4 years in duration and are supported by skilled and experienced faculty having extensive industry experience and exposure. They follow innovative teaching methodologies, preparing students for working in fast-paced professional environments. All NIFTs conduct a cumulative admission procedure. Application forms must be filled out online followed by payment of the application fee. The Creative Ability Test (CAT), the General Ability Test (GAT), and the Situation Test round make up the NIFT Entrance Exam. GAT is the selection criteria used particularly for admissions to B.F.Tech. Meritorious students from economically weaker backgrounds can apply for NIFT's Means-cum-Merit Financial Assistance plan or for the scholarships given out by the NIFT Development Fund. The NIFTs across the country have a centralised placement cell, which organises on-campus placements, pre-placement offers and off-campus placements. Top designers, as well as companies from the FMCG, journalism, and media industries, provide job opportunities to students at NIFT placements. H&M, Bata India Ltd, Raniwala Jewellers Pvt. Ltd, Go Colors, and Decathlon is among the leading companies that recruit from the NIFT campuses.

The NIFT Srinagar campus hosts a library with a wide collection of books, periodicals and promo-style books, alongside ebooks and e-resources. The campus also has fully equipped labs, classrooms, seminar halls, a recreation room and a number of sports facilities. The Wi-Fi-enabled campus also has a cafeteria, medical facilities, a dance room, a stationary store and e-bikes and e-cycles that students can use. Girl scholars are accommodated at the full-furnished girl's hostel on campus. Students gain practical hands-on experience at the Garment Construction lab, Pattern Making lab, Design Collection lab, and Computer lab. Well-equipped classrooms on campus make learning fun and interactive. The Wi-Fi-enabled campus also has a fashion photography studio, a spacious auditorium, an amphitheatre and a stationery shop, as well as a cafeteria and indoor and outdoor sports facilities. Resident scholars are provided accommodation at the separate boys' and girls' hostels.

Admission Procedure

B.Des and Masters in Fashion Management (MFM) are the programmes available at NIFT Srinagar. The NIFT Entrance Exam is used to determine admission to UG and PG programmes. The Creative Ability Test (CAT), the General Ability Test (GAT), and the Situation Test round make up the NIFT Entrance Exam. For admission to the MFM program, candidates must hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent, as well as the required scores on the GAT and CAT portions of the NIFT Entrance Exam. A personal interview round will then follow. 

Faculty

The faculty of NIFT Srinagar is a critical enabler in bringing the institute's goal to life. The professors, who have received their education at some of the world's most prestigious fashion institutes, bring to the classroom professional abilities, a broad range of experience, and years of hands-on industry experience. Faculty at NIFT develop critically engaged teaching approaches while putting them to the test in a variety of initiatives and circumstances. Students obtain vital knowledge, experience, and awareness of design application and industry dynamics by working with faculty on diverse real-life projects, enhancing their expertise and developing their talent.

Placements

Campus Placements at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, provides a platform for graduating students from diverse disciplines in two-year postgraduate and four-year undergraduate programs to achieve their professional hopes and objectives, and consequently requires employer organizations' active and persistent participation. The placement process of NIFTs are centralised. Companies can hire students from any of the NIFT campuses or courses through three channels that the institute facilitates: on-campus placements, pre-placement offers, and off-campus placements. NIFT Srinagar students have interned and worked for fashion design, fashion management firms and MNCs such as Aditya Birla, Madura Aharin Noida, Label JENN, TRC Overseas Alliance, Srinagar MV Clothing, U&Me, Bhopal, Zubair Kirmani, Srinagar El Pano, Delhi & Mumbai, and J&K Industries Ltd. (Silk Factory).



Scholarships

Every year, a significant amount of money from the NIFT Development Fund is put to good use in the area of scholarship. "NIFT's Means-cum-Merit Financial Assistance" plan allows students from low-income families to receive reduced tuition at any of its campuses in order to maximise their potential.
