National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata (NIFT Kolkata), was established in 1995 and has emerged as one of the best institutions in the country for providing quality education in the field of fashion technology. Students are given vital knowledge and design awareness by the world-class faculty of NIFT Kolkata. The faculty members help students to work on diverse real-life projects which are pretty necessary for enhancing expertise.

NIFT Kolkata offers undergraduate courses such as B.Des Fashion Design, B.Des Leather Design, B.Des Textile Design, B.Des Fashion Communication, B.Des Accessory Design, B.Des Knitwear Design and B.FTech - Apparel Production. NIFT Kolkata conducts an Entrance Exam that is used to determine admission to UG programmes. The NIFT Entrance Exam comprises three rounds such as the Creative Ability Test (CAT), the General Ability Test (GAT), and the Situation Test. Students are seeking admission for B.F.Tech has to qualify for the General Ability Test (GAT). Apart from this, students belonging to economically weaker sections can get NIFT's Means-cum-Merit Financial Assistance. The Placement Cell of NIFT Kolkata helps students to acquire needed skills in the field of fashion technology. Eligible students are offered internships and placements in reputable companies such as AJIO Business and Apollo, Arvind Lifestyle Brands Ltd., Babyshop Landmark (Dubai), Calvin Klein, Enamor, Hidesign, Nykaa, Puma, Raga Designs, Reebok, Reliance Retail, Shoppers Stop, Tata International Pvt. A traditional library with books and periodicals, national and international fashion and textile journals, a digital library, various laboratories such as Photo-Lab, Draping Labs, Construction Labs, Flat Bed Knitting Lab, Computerized Knitting Lab, Weaving Lab, different studios such as Photo-Studio, Design Studios, CAD Studio, Jewellery Design Studio, air-conditioned auditorium, seminar halls, well-furnished classrooms are some of the academic facilities that are available at NIFT Kolkata. Apart from this, the institute has a girls' hostel, outdoor sports facilities, an indoor gymnasium, medical facilities including a sick room, bus services for students and a cafeteria.

Admission Procedure

B.Des, B.F.Tech, and post-graduate courses in Master of Fashion Management (MFM) programmes are available at National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata. Aside from that, NIFT Kolkata offers a variety of Continuing Education Programs (CEP). The NIFT Entrance Exam is used to determine admission to UG programmes. The Creative Ability Test (CAT), the General Ability Test (GAT), and the Situation Test round make up the NIFT Entrance Exam. GAT is the selection criteria for B.F.Tech. 

Applicants for the M.F.M. programme must pass a written test that consists of a General Ability Test (GAT), and then they must participate in a group discussion and a personal interview (GD/PI) if they are among the applicants who have been shortlisted for the programme.

Campus Placements at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata provides a platform for graduating students from diverse disciplines in two-year postgraduate and four-year undergraduate programs to achieve their professional hopes and objectives, and consequently requires employer organizations' active and persistent participation. The placement process of NIFTs are centralised. Companies can hire students from any of the NIFT campuses or courses through three channels that the institute facilitates: on-campus placements, pre-placement offers, and off-campus placements. Top designers, as well as companies from the FMCG, journalism, and media industries, provide job opportunities to students at NIFT placements. Every year, a significant amount of money from the NIFT Development Fund is put to good use in the area of scholarship. "NIFT's Means-cum-Merit Financial Assistance" plan allows students from low-income families to receive reduced tuition at any of its campuses in order to maximise their potential.
