National Institute of Fashion Technology, Gandhinagar (NIFT), at its inception in 1995 was set up in a temporary building at Sector 26, Gandhinagar. From this temporary campus, allotted by the Government of Gujarat, the institute has now grown to occupy a 20,000 square metre state-of-the-art campus since 2004. The Girls’ Hostel, Director’s Bungalow and Staff Quarters take up an additional 10,000 square metre of land adjacent to the campus.

The undergraduate courses offered at the NIFT Gandhinagar, are B.Des in Fashion Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Fashion Communication; and B.FTech - Apparel Production. All courses are 4 years in duration. The courses are supported by skilled and experienced faculty having extensive industry experience and exposure. They follow innovative teaching methodologies, preparing students for working in fast-paced professional environments. All NIFTs conduct a cumulative admission procedure. Application forms must be filled out online followed by payment of application fee. The Creative Ability Test (CAT), the General Ability Test (GAT), and the Situation Test round make up the NIFT Entrance Exam. GAT is the selection criteria used particularly for admissions to B.F.Tech.

Meritorious students from economically weaker backgrounds can apply for NIFT's Means-cum-Merit Financial Assistance plan or for the scholarships given out of the NIFT Development Fund. The NIFTs across the country have a centralised placement cell, which organises on-campus placements, pre-placement offers and off-campus placements. Top designers, as well as companies from the FMCG, journalism, and media industries, provide job opportunities to students at NIFT placements. H&M, Bata India Ltd, Raniwala Jewellers Pvt. Ltd, Go Colors, and Decathlon are among the leading companies who recruit from the NIFT campuses.

To support students in their learning journey, NIFT Gandhinagar provides them access to a resourcefully stocked library, complete with collection of garments, accessories, textiles, fabric swatches, jewellery, books, journals, fashion forecasts, colour pantones, audio-visual material, electronic resources like e-books, e-journals, online databases alongside traditional books and journals. Students gain practical hands-on experience at 24 labs present on campus, catering to different aspects of Fashion design and technology. Well-equipped classrooms on campus make learning fun and interactive. The campus also features 3 AV rooms, an auditorium, an amphitheatre, a music and dance room, a gymnasium, and other sports facilities. The Wi-Fi enabled campus also has medical facilities, a stationery shop, and a cafeteria. Girl students looking for accommodation can apply for a places at the girls hostels near campus. They can also avail of the shuttle service for commuting to NIFT Gandhinagar and back.

Admission Procedure

National Institute of Fashion Technology, Gandhinagar offers 5 undergraduate programmes (Textile Design, Fashion Design, Fashion & Lifestyle Accessories Design, Fashion Communication and Bachelor of Fashion Technology) and 3 postgraduate programmes (Master of Fashion Management, Master of Fashion Technology & Master in Design). Aside from that, NIFT offers a variety of Continuing Education Programs (CEP). The NIFT Entrance Exam is used to determine admission to UG programs. The Creative Ability Test (CAT), the General Ability Test (GAT), and the Situation Test round make up the NIFT Entrance Exam. GAT is the selection criteria for B.F.Tech.

The placement process at NIFTs is centralized, and companies can hire students from any of the NIFT campuses or courses through three channels facilitated by the institution: on-campus placements, pre-placement offers, and off-campus placements. Scholarships

Every year, a significant amount of money from the NIFT Development Fund is put to good use in the area of scholarship. NIFT's Means-cum-Merit Financial Assistance now named as "Sarthak Scheme" plan allows students from low-income families to receive reduced tuition at any of its campuses in order to maximise their potential.
