Admission Procedure
National Engineering College, Thoothukkudi (NECT) follow an online method of admission. NECT offers Undergraduate and Post Graduate courses. Admission to NECT is totally based on the merit and eligibility of students. The Government Quota and the Management Quota are the two components of Undergraduate Admission. On behalf of the state government, Anna University in Chennai conducts single window counselling for the government quota admission, which accounts for 65% of the authorised enrollment. The state government of Tamil Nadu has established a committee to oversee admissions to all engineering colleges in the state for the management quota admission of 35% of the authorised strength. The association of engineering colleges is given permission by the regulation committee to fill the management positions at all engineering colleges. The association provides application forms, which the students use to submit their applications to the colleges of their choice. The organisation creates the rank list and assigns the candidate in accordance with the college of their choosing. Based on the allocation order issued by the management association, the management quota admission is carried out. The Government Quota and the Management Quota are the two categories for PG admission. On behalf of the state government through TANCA, Anna University in Chennai conducts single-window counselling for government quota admissions (Tamil Nadu Common Admission). The Association of Engineering Colleges' entrance test is used for management quota admission.

Scholarships
National Engineering College, Thoothukkudi (NECT) offers the Merit Scholarship to students based on their merit and eligibility criteria. For receiving the Merit Scholarship, students must secure above 190 TNEA(Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission) cutoff marks. Merit Scholarship is provided on the basis of marks obtained in JEE Main Score (10% less than the lower cutoff of any NIT) and students must win the NEC management-approved competitions. The scholarship is provided to strengthen the dreams of merit students from rural areas for pursuing technical education.
The awardee or the student will get the scholarship for all four years.
