Jawarharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER Puducherry), located in Puducherry, was established in the year 1823 and the medical college was inaugurated in the year 1964. JIPMER Puducherry is established for teaching, research and patient care in the area of health and spreads over 192 acres.

JIPMER Puducherry has been accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) in the year 2014. JIPMER Puducherry is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The undergraduate courses that it offers are as follows Bachelor in Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology, MBBS, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Cardiac Laboratory Technology, Dialysis Technolgy, Neuro Technology, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Operation Theatre Technology, Perfusion Technolgy and Radiotherapy Technolgy. It also provides post graduate courses like Master of Science, Master of Surgery, Doctor of Medicine, Master of Chirurgiae, and PhD degrees.
To get admission to the B.Sc courses and MBBS at the JIPMER Puducherry students are required to qualify for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) and appear for the counselling session conducted by the JIPMER Puducherry.
The Placement Cell of the JIPMER Puducherry helps students to get internship opportunities during the course of their undergraduate program. Besides this, internships are also provided at the JIPMER Puducherry's hospital to get in-hand experience and they get trained by the professionals in the field.

Admission Procedure
The admission procedure of Jawarharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research is conducted online. The selection of the candidates is merit-based. The students are required to qualify for the entrance exam set by the JIPMER Puducherry or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for the B.SC Courses. For the MBBS Course, the students are required to qualify for the NEET exams. The JIPMER Puducherry is a co-ed institute. Counselling is provided to students after their selection.
JIPMER Puducherry also provides Post-Graduate M.D / M.S / D.M / M.Ch and PhD degrees with various specializations. Interested candidates can apply through their official website. For MD/MS degree candidates must have to qualify for the entrance examination Institute of National Importance - Combined Entrance Test. DM/ M.Ch degree admission is based on an entrance examination Institute of National Importance Examination Super Speciality Entrance Test.
