Institute of Genetic Engineering (IGE), Kolkata was set up in 2003 by the Biotech Foundation, a trust for the promotion of education, training and research in Genetics and Biotechnology. IGE, Kolkata is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), and is affiliated to the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT).
Students can pursue 7 undergraduate (UG) and 3 postgraduate (PG) courses at IGE Kolkata. The UG courses are B.Sc in Biotechnology, and Media Laboratory Technology; B.Sc (Hons) in Genetics, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology; Bachelor of Computer Application; and BBA in Hospital Management. The PG courses that students can opt for at IGE Kolkata are for the degree of M.Sc in Biotechnology, Genetics, and Microbiology.
The highly qualified faculty of IGE, Kolkata strives to create and disseminate knowledge maintaining the highest standards while pursuing excellence, innovations and inclusiveness. Students need to qualify 10+2 level examination to apply for the UG courses, and graduation for the PG courses.
The Placement Department of IGE, Kolkata conducts value-added programmes and arranges for summer internships for the students, in addition to supporting the students to get recruited by companies such as Cognizant, Asian Paints, SRL Diagnostics, Nestle, Johnson & Johnson, Ranbaxy, and many more.
IGE, Kolkata provides the necessary infrastructural support to ensure the all-round development of the students. The Library at IGE, Kolkata has a collection of more than 1000 books for the scholars to avail, and a digital section with a high-speed internet connection providing access to a host of e-resources, including over 3000 e-books and 1000 e-journals. Hostel facilities are present only for girls on IGE, Kolkata Campus. Regular classes are conducted in spacious classrooms, while practical lessons take place in various specialised cutting-edge laboratories. IGE, Kolkata Campus also has an air-conditioned auditorium with multimedia facilities, as well as a cafeteria serving multi-cuisine food for all to enjoy.
