In 1959, the Indian Parliament conferred the status of an Institution of National Importance upon the Indian Statistical Institute, founded in Kolkata by Professor P.C. Mahalanobis on 17th December 1931. In 1974, Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi (ISI Delhi) was established, before relocating to its current premises in 1975.
ISI Delhi offers MSc and Ph.D. degrees. For PG admission, candidates must complete graduation from any university. Student selection is based on prior academic performance, aptitude on entrance exams, and performance in an interview. A candidate seeking admission to a doctoral program Prior to conducting an interview, a written Junior Research Fellow (JRF) selection test is administered. an interview after a written test.

Admission Procedure
Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi offers postgraduate courses like M.Sc degree with various specializations and Ph.D degree. Applicants need to have a bachelor's degree in the relevant field with required marks in order to apply in the postgraduate courses. Final admission will be based on the academic meerits scored by the individual.
