Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Mumbai) was set up in 1958. The Government institute was established with foreign assistance which was the first in the country. The autonomous university has been considered as one of the leading technical universities in the ever changing world. IIT Mumbai is a co-ed institute which is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Students are helped by well-experienced world class faculty members who are well known for their quality teaching and research methods.

Undergraduate courses offered by the institution include B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering; Chemical Engineering; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science; Engineering Physics; B.Tech + M.Tech in Electrical Engineering - Dual Degree; Mechanical Engineering - Dual Degree; Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science - Dual Degree; Engineering Physics; Environmental Science and Engineering - Dual Degree; Energy Science and Engineering - Dual Degree; B.S. in Chemistry; Mathematics; Economics; B.Des and BDes + MDes - Dual Degree. Admission to IIT Mumbai is done online. It is important for students to meet all the eligibility criteria. Candidates have to appear for the JEE advanced to get admission to B.Tech programmes and Dual Degrees. On the other hand, students are required to qualify for the UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) to get admitted in B.Des course. The admission procedure is based on scores obtained in the entrance examination.

Meritorious needy students are provided with a range of scholarships such as Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship and financial aid.

IIT Mumbai Training and Placement Office operates the placement process for the students.

Students are provided with proper education to enhance their aptitude and problem-solving skills which helps them to get prepared for the duties of the corporate world. Placement drives at IIT Mumbai observe the highest package of 1 CPA and an average of 25 LPA.

The basic academic amenities include a huge library with study rooms, a digital library, various laboratories such as design lab, research lab, computer lab, smart air-conditioned classrooms, a large auditorium and a seminar hall. Besides, IIT Mumbai has separate hostel accommodation for boys and girls, outdoor sports facilities including a football field, cricket ground, tennis court, basketball court and a swimming pool, a recreation room, medical facilities and a cafeteria.

Admission Procedure

Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai admissions are conducted online. To apply for their undergraduate degrees, candidates must meet all the required eligibility requirements of the course for which they candidate is applying. The candidate has to go through the online admission process on the website. Most importantly the candidates must get a valid Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) score in order to be admitted to B.Tech programmes and Dual Degrees, also for the B.Des degrees the students have to qualify for the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). While the admission criteria and eligibility differ from course to course, all students must have passed their 10+2 school leaving test from a recognised board of secondary education. Primarily admission to IIT, Mumbai takes place on the merit obtained in the aforesaid exams. 

Along with undergraduate degrees, IIT Mumbai also provides fascinating postgraduate specialisations in the form of M.TECH, MSC (Research), MBA, and M.Tech. + PhD (Dual Degree), M.Sc.- PhD (Dual Degree), MA+Ph.D (Dual Degree), Master of Arts By Research (MA.Res. ), and PhD. A candidate should have graduated from an accredited university in order to be considered for admission to a postgraduate programme. Admission is granted by the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) for M.Tech. programs, the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) for M.Des. programs, the Common Admission Test (CAT) for M.B.A. programs, and the Joint Admission Test (JAM) for M.Sc. programmes.

In order to plan and coordinate the IIT Mumbai placement process, the office actively works with numerous organisations and regularly receives input from the recruiters.
