Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai (IIT Bhilai) is a public technical and research university located in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, India. It’s a part of the Indian Institute of Technology. Established in 2016 by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, it has been classified as an “Institute of National Importance” by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

IIT Bhilai offers five undergraduate research-driven B.Tech degrees in the following subjects: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence. All admissions for IIT Bhilai is screened through the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Mains and Advance. All applicants must have scored above the set cut-off every year to qualify for a B.Tech degree at IIT Bhilai. Additionally, for B.Arch degrees, applicants are required to clear the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) along with the JEE. Post which, applicants are required to fill out an online form on the IIT Bhilai website to carry their application forward. In order to be eligible for admission, applicants must have successfully completed a 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised board. IIT Bhilai offers both need and merit-based scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to 25% of undergraduate students. Students from SC, ST, and OBC categories are also eligible for additional scholarships and waivers in housing and other amenities. 10% of the students are also eligible for studentships.

IIT Bhilai has a robust placement mechanism which is handled by their Career Cell called the Center for Career Planning and Service. IIT Bhilai allows companies and organizations to directly participate in campus fairs and placement interviews by registering through their website. They offer students ample opportunities in internships as well. Some of the major recruiters include Amazon, Google, Intuit, Sprinklr, Commvault, Paytm, Dunzo, Atonarp, AirAsia Technology Centre, L&T, Intuit, Codenation, Arista Networks, VMWare, MAQ Software, NewZera Tech Labs Pvt Ltd, Needl.AI, Agverse Technologies etc. PSUs like NIC, CDAC and more.

The faculty of IIT Bhilai is formed of a well-qualified team of academics and industry professionals who create an environment conducive to technological and cultural studies while stimulating originality and innovation. Since IIT Bhilai is a considerably new institute – it hasn’t developed a campus of its own and is functioning in its transit campus at Government Engineering College (GEC) Raipur, Chhattisgarh. IIT Bhilai houses well-furnished smart classrooms, a 3D printing lab that constitutes an integral part of the 3D Modeling and Design course, a fabrication lab, an electrical lab, a computer lab, and a library which comprises a wide range of books, journals, magazines as well as the digital e-books, access to databases for research.

Admission Procedure

The Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai’s admissions are conducted online. To apply for their undergraduate degrees, candidates must meet all the required eligibility requirements of the course for which they candidate is applying. The candidate has to go through the online admission process on the website. Most importantly the candidates must get a valid JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Advanced score in order to be admitted to B.Tech programmes. While the admission criteria and eligibility differ from course to course, all students must have passed their 10+2 school leaving test from a recognised board of secondary education. Detailed information on the eligibility criteria, seat matrix, and admission procedures shall be published on JEE (Advanced) website. Applications are normally received online through the admission portal made available on the website in the month of February every year. 

Additionally, IIT Bhilai offers graduate programmes like the M.Tech, M.Sc., and PhD programmes. A candidate for the postgraduate programme must have a bachelor's degree in any field with at least 50% of the required marks.

Faculty

Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai, on its roster, has about 70 faculty members, working in various cutting-edge research areas spread over engineering, mathematical and scientific disciplines. All the faculty members have exposure to world-class education and research as doctoral students and postdoctoral researcher – in various top-ranking laboratories and institutes in India and abroad.
