Established in the year 2006 the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata is one of the national networks of seven such universities initiated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The campus is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). IISER Kolkata is also aided by some of the best faculties in the world to nurture students in their chosen career pathways.

Started with an intention to transform careers in the field of science, IISER Kolkata at present offers undergraduate courses in Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Geological Science, Mathematics and Physical Sciences. Admissions to the college rely on the Joint Admissions Committee (JAC). It conducts the IISER Aptitude Test for admission to various courses.

With an aim to promote state of art research facilities,IISER Kolkata’s library subscribes to a variety of e-resources to help students raise their own knowledge parameters each day. IISER Kolkata also has well-equipped laboratories that take care of each of the needs of the students. A few of the major research facilities available in these laboratories include CHN Analyzer, DigitalPolarimeter(Rudolph), Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization(MALDI), Differential scanning calorimeters (DSC), Micro-calorimeter (GE) and many other. Wifi facilities are also available for the students to avail. The classrooms on the campus are also spacious and well-equipped. In addition to the same, IISER Kolkata is even connected to the National Knowledge Network (NKN) via an optical fibre link to organise e-classroom settings for its students.

The campus features a huge auditorium to organise all conferences and other events. One of the most distinctive features is its Mind Care and Wellness Centre which is bound to the simple philosophy of respect and honour. The main lookout of this centre is to ensure the mental well-being of its students and assist them to move forward in life. Furthermore, the on-campus medical committee of the college also includes a resident doctor to handle all sorts of medical cases. Additionally, IISER Kolkata also provides for mess facilities throughout the year along with granting them a non-profit rate on its food menu items having nutritional value. Comprising three hostels, these stay facilities even organize a variety of co-curricular activities for students to participate in.

Admission Procedure

Undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate programmes are all available at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata. Admissions to IISER Kolkata are available for Bachelor of Science-Master of Science (BS-MS) dual degrees, Master of Science (MS), Master of Science (Research), Integrated PhD and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes.

Students interested in BS-MS dual degree programmes may go to www.iiseradmissions.ac.in to learn about the qualifying requirements and channels through which IISER Kolkata admissions are available. The Joint Admissions Committee (JAC) is in charge of the IISER Kolkata UG admissions procedure, which includes BS-MS dual degrees. It's worth noting that there is one way for candidates to enter into IISER's BS-MS dual degree programmes: IISER Aptitude Test (IAT). A Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Engineering, or Bachelor of Technology from a recognised university or an equivalent degree is required for admission to the postgraduate programme. Following an admissions call, some applicants will be shortlisted and contacted for interviews based on the evaluation of their applications. Admissions for MS are done on the basis of Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) and IAT and admissions for MS (Research) are done through IAT and Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE). PhD and Integrated PhD admissions are carried out with through University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), Council for Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test (CSIR NET), GATE, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR NET), INSPIRE PhD Fellowship, JAM and Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST).

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata's Centre for Career Development (CCD) is dedicated to assisting the students with career planning, exploration, graduate school guidance, job search techniques, and on-campus interviews for full-time jobs, internships, and related possibilities. After the transformation brought in by IISER Kolkata, CCD will seek to guide and mentor students preparing for further academic programs in judiciously navigating through the complete spectrum of options and vocations they can embark on and contribute to. The previously trained students have joined various research fields and industries like Bioinformatics, Exploration and Mining, Specialty and Fine Chemicals, Polymers, Synthetic Chemistry, Optics, and Statistical Modeling.
