The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur is an Institute of National Importance that is known for its nationwide significance. IIEST Shibpur is a rich source of history to India ever since its inception in the year 1856. Situated right across the bustling metropolitan city of Kolkata the college attracts students from all over the country.
IIEST Shibpur is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education, Government of India and is affiliated with the Council of National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research.

At present, the courses offered by IIEST Shibpur include B. Tech in Aerospace Engineering and Applied Mechanics, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Mining Engineering; and B.Arch in Architecture, Town and Regional Planning. IIEST Shibpur follows an online admission procedure. The final admission is done via the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). However, the students are required to qualify for JEE-Main examinations along with having subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at their higher secondary level. The students are enrolled strictly on the basis of merit.
IIEST Shibpur also provides scholarships based on merits. The students can avail of scholarships such as the National Scholarship for Higher Education for ST, DAAD Scholarship-Working Internship in Science And Technology, Prime Minister Research Fellowships, and many others if they qualify for the same.
Every single department in IIEST Shibpur provides practical training to students. There are also several programs associated with corporations and industries. Workshops with TATA, Larsen and Toubro, Nigeria for Worley Parsons, Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation, IBM and many more are organized on a timely basis to assist students to catch a gist of the corporate world.
The lush green campus of IIEST Shibpur has over the decades produced numerous talented technologists and engineers. Currently, the facilities provided to the students by IIEST Shibpur also aim to nurture them into a more skilled version of themselves. Where the library of IIEST Shibpur is said to have above 1.4 million items alongside a unique and rare collection of nineteenth-century books and journals. The classrooms of the campus are fully equipped with the latest microphones, speakers, projectors, and smart boards to promote interactive learning sessions. The laboratories of IIEST Shibpur are equipped with the latest equipment to help the students improve their skills. Nevertheless, the campus has separate provisions for Carpentry, Welding and Painting, Boiler, Automobile, Fitting, Project models, Foundry and pattern, Smithy, Electric, and many more. Wifi facilities are also available for the students to avail. Dedicated to uplifting students from every single end the campus even provides for gym facilities to improve the physical health of the students.
Other basic amenities like a swimming pool, basketball courts, and sports ground are also available for encouraging students to take part in physical activities. Separate hostels for boys and girls are provided as per the hostel’s policies.

Admission Procedure
The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur conducts an online admission procedure via the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). The students (co-ed) are required to qualify for the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) after the completion of their 10+2 examinations having Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as mandatory subjects to apply for the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree with nine specialisations, B.Tech - M.Tech Dual degree and Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree. The final admission is provided on the basis of merits scored by the individuals.
IIEST Shibpur also offers Master of Planning (M.Plan), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Technology (M.Tech), and Master of Science (M.Sc.) courses. For admission to M.Plan, M.Sc and M.Tech degrees, candidates need to qualify Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM). MBA admissions are based on (Management Aptitude Test (MAT), Common Management Admission Test (CMAT), Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), Common Admission Test (CAT), Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). These programmes only admit students who demonstrate merit. Candidates will be chosen based on their academic standing and how well they performed in the University's interview. IIEST Shibpur also provides PhD degrees and admissions are carried out through University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) / Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test (CSIR NET) / GATE / Indian Council of Medical Research National Eligibility Test (ICMR NET).
