Established in 1980, Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute, Prayagraj (GBPSSI Prayagraj) is a highly esteemed Research & Development Institute in India. GBPSSI Prayagraj is a joint venture between the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), the Government of India, and the Government of Uttar Pradesh. GBPSSI Prayagraj dedicates its efforts to the research of Social Sciences and Management, with a special focus on socioeconomic and human development, environment, culture, and public policies. Following the University of Allahabad becoming a Central University in July 2005, GBPSSI Prayagraj was made a Constituent Institute of the University and its relationship to the University is now regulated by its ordinances.

GBPSSI Prayagraj is located along National Highway No. 2, otherwise known as the renowned G.T. Road (also linking Allahabad to Varanasi). It is around 10 kilometers from Allahabad Junction Railway Station and 1 km from Triveni Sangam. GBPSSI Prayagraj boasts a lush green and clean campus that spans 10 acres. There are air-conditioned, roomy classrooms at GBPSSI Prayagraj. Every classroom has an overhead projector, and contemporary teaching tools, and is set up for active learning. GBPSSI Prayagraj has state-of-the-art laboratories that are equipped with the latest equipment and tools to facilitate practical learning. GBPSSI Prayagraj is home to a sizable, up-to-date library that acts as a national repository for books, journals, and contemporary documents for research, development, management, and ethnography. GBPSSI Prayagraj has a committee room with the appropriate furnishings for organizing seminars, workshops, symposiums, and lectures, as well as a seminar hall with central air conditioning and all necessary projection equipment, including an LCD, an overhead projector, a whiteboard, and a public address system. GBPSSI Prayagraj contains a basketball court, a volleyball court, and a badminton court. It also has a well-equipped indoor games area.
