Government Arts College, Salem (GAC Salem) is an autonomous institution affiliated with Periyar University and was established in 1879.
The oldest higher education institution in the Salem district in Tamil Nadu extensively offer courses from undergraduate to full-time and part-time doctoral program having enormous support from the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Salem district municipality’s help. GAC Salem bestows a range of undergraduate programs through Bachelor of Arts [B.A.] degrees in the disciplines of Tamil, English, History, Public Administration, etc; Bachelor of Science [B. Sc.] degrees in Geography, Geology, Chemistry, Botany, Mathematics, Statistics, etc; under the science stream it also offers a Bachelor of Computer Application [BCA] degree; Bachelor of Commerce [B. Com.] degrees can be pursued with two honours options or even as general, and a Bachelor of Business Administration [BBA] degree is also available in the institution. Apart from BBA and B. Com. with Computer Application honours, postgraduate programs are offered with all the subjects as of the undergraduate courses. Research programs are also offered under the same disciplines.
The infrastructure of GAC Salem carries a vintage British architecture ambiance within a stringent green zone setup, with gigantic classroom space and laboratories. Government Arts College, Salem offers admission to the students through either online form submission or offline form submission which will be notifies in the official website. The students are provided with undergraduate courses like BA, BBA, BCA, B.Com, and B.Sc with various specialisations applying to which they are required to have qualifying marks in their 10+2 examinations from a recognized board.
GAC Salem also provides postgraduate courses like MA, MCA, M.Com, M.Phil and M.Sc with various specialisations along with doctorate degree of Ph.D in every department. The applying students are required to have qualifying marks in their Bachelor's degree from a recognized University for applying in the postgraduate courses and for doctorate courses they are required to have a Master's degree with qualifying marks from a recognized University.
