The Chennai-based Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) was established with the intention of educating students and supporting the Indian industry by filling the skill gap in the areas of footwear, leather accessories, and lifestyle products. Students are inspired to reach their full potential by the skills and abilities of the FDDI faculty.

The faculty produces printed self-educational resources in collaboration with researchers, development teams, and practitioners. Along with their education from FDDI and some of the best fashion universities in the world, the instructors bring to the classroom years of real-world experience, extensive exposure, and professional expertise.

Two undergraduate programs and a postgraduate program is available via the Footwear Design and Development Institute, Chennai. All applicants for admission must undergo counselling after submitting an online application for the FDDI All India Selection Test (FDDI-AIST). Each qualified applicant must succeed on the written test offered by the FDDI's administrators.

For scholarships from government (central and state) organisations, students from all FDDI institutions may apply if they match the eligibility standards. The FDDI coordinates with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India's campus placement process, which is centralised throughout all FDDI campuses. The Placement Cell allows students at the institute to engage in mock interviews, group discussions, pre-placement training, and industry exposure. So far, each student has secured a job placement from the college.

The FDDI Chennai campus has a great infrastructure and modern amenities that allow the various academic programmes to run smoothly. The central library, which has a huge collection of printed resources on fashion and related businesses, is located on campus in a separate, spacious building. Separate, fully furnished hostels are supplied for 350 male and 200 female students. A cutting-edge computer lab, a fully equipped design studio, workshops, and the internationally renowned International Testing Laboratory empower students to study in a more practical and enriching manner. The centrally air-conditioned classrooms and lecture halls are provided with the most up-to-date multimedia audio-video teaching aids to ensure a seamless educational experience. On campus, there is also a well-equipped auditorium for official and casual gatherings and activities.

Admission Procedure

Two undergraduate (B.Des) and postgraduate (M.Des) courses in design are offered by Footwear Design and Development Institute, Chennai. All candidates for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions must submit an online application for the FDDI All India Selection Test (FDDI-AIST), followed by counselling. Each and every qualified applicant would need to pass a test (Paper Based Test) given by FDDI. Only English will be used as the test's medium. A candidate for the postgraduate program must have a bachelor's degree in any field. All qualified candidates must appear at the examination centres they select for the written entrance examination in the city of their choice. The written admission exam aims to evaluate candidates' knowledge, aptitude, and suitability for the chosen program. 

Faculty

The faculty at Footwear Design and Development Institute, Chennai is skilled and experienced, which motivates students to achieve their best potential. In association with Academia, R & D, and practising staff, the faculty creates printed self-educational materials. Through collaboration with the faculty members on diverse real-world projects, students develop their skills and knowledge while learning essential information about design applications and market dynamics. The professors have training from some of the top fashion schools in the world as well as from FDDI, bringing to the classroom their professional skills, extensive exposure, and years of practical experience.

Placements

All Footwear Design and Development Institute campuses participate in a centralised campus placement procedure run by the FDDI, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The Institute's students receive important career counselling and guidance from the Corporate and Public Relations Department. Scholarships

According to the procedures and qualifying requirements, students from all Footwear Design and Development Institute campuses are eligible to apply for scholarships given by government (central and state) agencies. There are no scholarships available from FDDI. FDDI processes and forwards the scholarship applications of the eligible students to the applicable agencies.
