St. Joseph's Society of Madurai (the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Lyon, France) founded and runs it as a Catholic Minority institution. The relentless efforts of the St. Joseph of Lyon missionary sisters and the fervour and selfless sacrifice of Rev. Sr. Rose Benedict, the College's Foundress, were crucial in the founding of this organisation. Fatima College, Madurai received the designation of College with Potential for Excellence from the UGC in 2004. FC, Madurai is proud of its role as a pioneer in the movement for women's emancipation via higher education.
