Union Public Service Commission Civil Service Examination (UPSC CSE), often regarded as one of the most prestigious and challenging competitive exams in India, serves as a gateway to coveted positions within the country's administrative system. UPSC CSE 2024 Application Procedure 

 

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) releases a comprehensive notification for the Civil Services Examination on its official website (www.upsc.gov.in) and prominent newspapers. This notification contains essential details, including examination dates, eligibility criteria, syllabus, application procedure, and other relevant information. 

The Commission's website (www.upsconline.nic.in) serves as the online platform for candidates to submit their applications. Before proceeding with the online application for the exam, candidates are required to register on the One Time Registration (OTR) platform, conveniently accessible through the Commission's website. Candidates are required to provide several salient information while registering for the OTR, such as name, gender, date of birth, contact details etc. 

 

Candidates must follow the steps mentioned below for their application procedure for the Preliminary Examination- 

 

  • Step 1: Register on the OTR Portal

  • Step 2: Log in and Verify OTR Application

  • Step 3: Check for Latest Notifications

  • Step 4: Apply for Desired Examination

Upon being declared qualified for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination by the Commission, candidates will be required to apply online once more. They must submit the Detailed Application Form-I (DAF-I) along with scanned copies of documents/certificates verifying their date of birth, category, and educational qualifications, along with the necessary examination fee. It is crucial to adhere to the submission deadline, as any delay in providing the DAF-I or supporting documents will lead to the cancellation of the candidate's Civil Services Examination (CSE) candidature. 

 

 

UPSC CSE 2024 Eligibility Criteria

 

To be able to apply for UPSC Civil Service Examination 2024, candidates must satisfy the following eligibility criteria-

 

  • Aspirants aiming to become IAS, IPS or IFS officers must be citizens of India

  • As of August 1, 2024, candidates applying for the UPSC Civil Services Examination should be at least 21 years of age and must not exceed 32 years of age.

  • Candidates are required to hold a graduation degree from any of the recognized Universities

 

Note- Eligible candidates can appear for the Civil Service Examination for a maximum of six times. For SC/ST/OBC and PwBD categories relaxation in number of attempts is made. 

 

 

UPSC CSE 2024 Examination Pattern

 

Civil Service Examination 2024 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) like every year followed a rigorous examination pattern comprising of three stages namely-     Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Personality Test/ Interview.

The Preliminary Examination, commonly referred to as the "Prelims," acts as the first screening round, assessing candidates' general awareness and aptitude. Those who qualify for the Prelims advance to the Main Examination, which delves deeper into various subjects, testing candidates' expertise in diverse areas of knowledge. The Main Examination consists of nine papers, with two qualifying papers in English and any Indian language. The other seven papers cover a wide range of subjects, including Essays, General Studies (GS), and optional subjects selected by candidates based on their interests and background. After successfully navigating through the Main Examination, candidates proceed to the final phase - the Personality Test, which assesses their overall personality, attitude, and suitability for administrative roles. The Interview panel comprises esteemed experts from various fields who evaluate candidates' leadership qualities, problem-solving abilities, and ethical values.

 

 

UPSC CSE 2024 Results

 

The outcomes of each stage are typically disclosed on the official UPSC website, www.upsc.gov.in, a few months after the completion of the respective stage. Successful candidates from the Preliminary Examination progress to the Main Examination. Subsequently, candidates who meet the cut-off marks in the Main Examination are shortlisted for the Personality Test (Interview).

Upon conclusion of the Personality Test, the final results are amalgamated, considering the candidate's performance in both the Main Examination and the Personality Test. The final results, encompassing the names and roll numbers of those who have triumphed in all examination stages, are published on the UPSC website. The result for Civil Service Examination 2024 (Preliminary) was announced on the 12 of June, 2024. The Mains examination 2024 result will be announced in the September and final result for UPSC CSE 2024 will be announced soon.

After the results are published, UPSC will release the rank list according to which candidates will be assigned their respective roles. The following is the list of positions that the candidates may be appointed to according to their ranks-

The anticipated count of positions to be filled through the examination is around 1105. This encompasses 37 positions set aside for individuals falling under the Persons with Benchmark Disability Category. Specifically, this distribution comprises 7 openings for candidates with blindness and low vision, 5 openings for those with deafness and hearing impairment, 15 openings for candidates with locomotor disabilities including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, and muscular dystrophy. Additionally, there are 10 positions allocated for candidates with multiple disabilities falling within categories (a) to (c), which includes deaf-blindness. The exact number of vacancies could vary following confirmation from Cadre Controlling Authorities. Affirmative provisions will be in place for candidates from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections, and Persons with Benchmark Disability, as determined by governmental guidelines.
