About UCEED 2024

 

The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay conducts the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) under the guidance of the UCEED-CEED Implementation Committee 2024 (hereafter referred to as the UCI Committee). The examination verifies admissions for the degree of Bachelor of Design (B.Des) into the IITs of 24 cities in India. 

UCEED has two sections - Part A and Part B. Computer-based Part A carries 240 marks and sketching-related questions in Part B carry 60 marks, both of which must be completed on the supplied sheet. The candidates must attempt both sections within the allotted time.

UCEED and B.Des admissions are completely two different activities. The candidates should clear the UCEED examination to apply to the B.Des course.

UCEED 2024 Application Procedure

 

The application form for UCEED 2024 is available online. The stages involved in filling out the application form are as follows:

  • Registration- The candidates must register for the exam via the official link provided. A registration form will be opened where the candidates should enter their email address and press the "Register" button. An activation link will be emailed to their registered email address. Clicking on it will redirect to a page for filling in some additional information like Name, DOB, Gender, Mobile Number, etc. followed by processing a password for the candidate’s account saving which completes the registration process.

  • Fill in Personal Details- The candidate needs to fill in their personal details that including Birth category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) status, PwD status, Email address, Mobile number, etc.

  • Fill in Educational Qualification- Next comes the candidate's educational qualification where they are required to fill in their Class 12 examination details as the year of passing, the board of examination, name of the school, state, city/town and the school’s address.

  • Select Test Centers- The candidates are required to select at least 3 centers (Max) for the examination in order of preference. Please be aware that the requests to change the cities for the UCEED exams will not be considered.

  • Upload Documents- For document verification, the candidates are required to upload scanned copies of some documents such as Recent color photograph, Signature, Qualifying examination certificate (if applicable), and Gazette notification showing the change of name (If the name is not the same as in the Class 12 certificate), provisional certificate (if applicable), category certificate (if applicable), request letter to avail scribe or compensatory time (if applicable). Verifying all these documents will take the process ahead.

  • Fee payment- This step requires the candidate to ensure that the UCEED application form is complete in all respects, before making the payment. The payment is accepted online. (The fee amount is different for national and international candidates)

 

 

UCEED 2024 Eligibility Criteria

 

The eligibility criteria for UCEED 2024 are as follows:

  • The candidate should have been born on or after 01 October 1998, if belonging to the OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL category and born on or after 01 October 1993, if belonging to the SC, ST, or PwD category.

  • A candidate can attempt UCEED a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years.

  • The candidate should have passed in all subjects in the qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) in 2023, OR should be appearing for the qualifying examination for the first time in 2024 in order to be eligible for attempting UCEED 2024.

  • Candidates must pass all stages in order to apply for the UCEED examination, which is required for admission to the B.Des course.

List of qualifying examinations for UCEED 2024:

  • The final examination of the 10+2 system, is administered by a Central or State Board accredited by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

  • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination administered by a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (www.aiu.ac.in).

  • The final test for the National Defense Academy's two-year Joint Services Wing program.

  • The National Institute of Open Schooling administers Senior Secondary School Examinations in a minimum of five courses.

  • Any public school, board, or university examination administered in India or abroad and recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as being similar to the 10+2 system (AIU).

  • High school vocational examination.

  • Advanced (A) level General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge, or Sri Lanka).

  • Cambridge University's High School Certificate Examination or the Geneva-based International Baccalaureate Office's diploma are two options.

The candidates who have passed the Class XII (or similar) test from a board that is not listed above or from outside of India must present a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities stating that their exam was equal to the Class XII examination. The candidate must have already passed at least one public exam (Board or Pre-University) before showing up for UCEED if the Class XII exam is not a public exam.

 

Reservation of Seats at UCEED 2024:

 

Indian citizens who fall into specific categories are admitted to the seats designated for them in accordance with Indian government regulations. Following are the reservation categories and levels:

  • Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) - 10% of seats. The only EWS certificates that will be recognized are those issued on or after 01 April 2023.

  • Other Backward Classes belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL): 27% of seats.

  • Scheduled Caste (SC): 15% of seats.

  • Scheduled Tribe (ST): 7.5% of seats.

  • PwD candidates: 5% reservation for PwD candidates (horizontal). Candidates who meet the RPwD Act of 2016's baseline disability requirements are eligible for reservation in this category.

 

 

UCEED 2024 Syllabus

 

The syllabus of UCEED is set by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. The UCEED 2024 examination consists of two parts: 

  • Part A covers a variety of topics such as Visualisation and Spatial Ability, Observation and Design Sensitivity, Environmental and Social Awareness, Analytical and Logical Reasoning, Language and Creativity, and Design, Thinking, and Problem Solving. This part will include questions in the form of pictorial and diagrammatic illustrations to test the candidates' understanding of 2D shapes and 3D objects, their spatial relationships, and knowledge of mechanical and scientific concepts. The candidates will also be required to demonstrate their ability to detect concealed properties in everyday situations, show awareness of environmental and social factors, use analytical and logical reasoning to discern patterns and identify hidden biases, use Standard English effectively, and solve problems through visual analogies and metaphors.

  • Part B of the examination comprises ONE question, which will assess candidates' ability to draw products, people, or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading.

 

 

UCEED 2024 Examination Pattern

 

Part-A of the examination is a computer-based test; there is no opportunity to examine, regrade, or re-total the Part A marks of the examination paper. Only one question in Part B will be manually graded by experienced examiners. There is no standard response to the subjective question in Part B of the UCEED. On the basis of the criteria listed in the question, it will be considered holistically. Re-evaluation or re-totaling is not provided in UCEED. 

 

 

UCEED 2024 Results

 

The results of UCEED 2024 will be announced on 08 March 2024, and will be available on the official website. To view the results, the candidates must log in with their username and password (established upon registration). From 11 March 2024, until 12 June 2024, any candidate who takes part in UCEED 2024 will be able to download their Score Card from the official UCEED website. The shortlisted candidates were given a rank (All India Rank) and were considered qualified for applying to the B.Des program. Although, getting into the B.Des program does NOT guarantee a rank in UCEED. The UCEED Score Card will not be available in hard copy, hence it will not be sent or digitally provided to approved candidates. 

The responses of the candidates for Part-A of UCEED 2024 will be available for download only till the UCEED result is announced. As soon as the UCEED results are made public, downloading of Part-A responses will be disabled. No more requests in this regard will be granted next.

 

 

UCEED 2024 Outcomes

 

Qualifying in the UCEED examinations grants candidates approval to apply for B.Des programs at participating IITs in 24 cities across India.
