Ethiraj College for Women (ECW), Chennai was established in 1948 by V.L. Ethiraj, an eminent lawyer and philanthropist who strongly believed in the inclusion and empowerment of women. Situated on a sprawling 9-acre Campus in the heart of Chennai, ECW, Chennai has high academic standards and a strong desire to constantly update and renew skills and knowledge.
ECW, Chennai is recognised by the University Grants Commission and is affiliated to the University of Madras.

The Library at ECW Chennai is a member of INFLIBNET N-List, and has a Resource Centre for the visually impaired. Photocopying facilities are also available within the ECW Library, which also hosts annual library fests and on-campus book exhibitions.
Students are provided hostel accommodations in 3, 4 or 6 sharing rooms, which come along with mess and vegetarian dining facilities. Promoting an active lifestyle for students, ECW, Chennai has provisions for several outdoor and indoor games, such as football, cricket, badminton, handball, basketball, hockey, volleyball, netball, kabaddi, kho kho, carrom and chess. Facilities for shooting, archery, wushu and judo is also present at ECW, Chennai, along with a yoga centre and an athletics track. There are several specialised cutting-edge laboratories at Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai. ECW, Chennai has spacious classrooms, a cafeteria, as well as an air-conditioned auditorium seating 1100 people.
